...So "eagle scouts" are.. a cult that gives you rewards (fancy badges) for doing regular good deeds that humans should do even without being in the cult huh?

I'm home now, so I return to you an official Eagle Scout. I was one of the four people who got it today, so it was one of the most important days for my Troop.

Scouting is an organization of social activity, not a cult.

A cult is an organisation based very much around a religious or spiritual meaning

Congratulations mate.

I'm a part of the Scouting association. I don't know what divisions you have, but we have Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers, Network. I started at Beavers, moved up to Cubs, then to Scouts and left. Then re-joined at Explorers with Saunby (you may have seen his name crop up on the forum). I then moved up to Network, which is where I am now- although unfortunately due to the fact that i'm at Uni (away from home- i'm not a very active member).

I was also a young leader in Beavers for two years, and I am now an assistant leader in Explorers.

Bit of my background in Scouting :)

Edit: I'll upload a picture to the gallery when i'm back at home.

I started in Tigers, our youngest, moved through Wolfs, Bears, Weablouse 1 and 2, to boy scouts, and moved throught all the ranks. So I was in scouts from 1st Grade all the way through 12th Grade.

Technically it's not "Boy Scouts" because girls are just as much a part of Scouting.

Depends, in the US we have Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, there are other organizations that are mixed. And only the US has the two separate ones.

Well in the UK it used to be Boy Scouts and Girl Guides and we're talking quite a few years ago now. Now we have Guides (which are all girls), and Scouts (which are a mix between girls and boys). It does however remain that predominantly Scouts are made up of boys.

That is simply not true.

They are on the whole divided here also

What he's saying is that in the US they are completely divided as in you don't get mixed genders in one group.

In the UK although we have Girl Guides (girls) and Scouts (boys) although as I was saying before- "Scouts" in the UK are made up of both boys and girls- so in that sense their not completely divided as they are in the USA.

So what Gospel is saying is correct.

How long has scouts been open to girls?

I am sure it was never seemly an option when I was about 10.

Maybe just wasn't the done thing I dunno.

Definitely sounds more recent movement to me. but I can honestly say I never bothered with it after the age of 11 so.....

Do they accept boys into Girl Guides???

They've been accepting girls into Scouts for at least the past 5 years although possibily longer. Pretty much since they changed the name from Boy Scouts to the more generalised "Scouts".

No, Girl Guides still only accept females.

It was definitely boys only scouts when I was younger.

I suppose the laws may have said it was technically legal to do so but it never happened or was considered. I hadn't realised that had changed nowerdays. It was certainly a gender split a few years ago.

I have to say for such a large organization, making Scouts multi sex and leaving guides strictly girls only is pretty sexist. Not saying a boy would want to be a guide but it is discrimination nether the less.
