yes i all know that youve been waiting for it but umm according to this guy its not gonna come out unless YOU yes you help
Dear Jedi Academy Fans,

Do you remember me ?

I am Eltran, the creator of Stalax, the mod that was bringing endless possibilities in Jedi Academy, it wasn't really famous I know, because I published it really too late and there weren't a lot of people interested about using the features the mod could offer. ( YouTube - stalax )

Jedi Academy is really a great game, I can't get rid off that, I fail every time I want to forget it, I always come back...

But the engine is getting older and older, I've tried everything I could do to improve it, but sometimes, I was violating the EULA by trying to make some impossible things like a hook into jasp.exe in order to embed Lua inside it and make a kind of "unofficial sdk for the SP".

A lot of people in the community wanted a new game for the Jedi Knights Serie. Raven Software seems they don't want to support Jedi Academy anymore, and they won't release a new Jedi Knights game.

If I've done some good things into JA as the physics engine implementation, then I feel ready to do it if they still don't want to release it, but I never think I could do it alone...

And this is why I ask for some support from the JA community.

This project doesn't have a name yet, it doesn't have a story, time line, screenplay... either, I am just a coder and everything must have a beginning...

If Raven Software don't want to release a new JK game, then I think WE can do it, I only need resources, models, story, textures, maps, additional coders, then the work will be done.

For the game's script, we could make a next episode after Jedi Academy, but other ideas would be welcomed.

For the engine, I plan to work on the Xreal enhanced Quake 3 Engine, this engine includes a lot of new features, light dynamic lights, vocal chat, you can see some pics there : http://xreal-project.net/?page_id=15
And a preview video there : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=berBJRS7Ahk (don't forget to press on HD button)

Well, I am looking for...

* Scenarist : Someone who has a good knowledge about the Star Wars Universe, and can find a title for that project, a story, a time line, main characters,...
* Modders : For the models, characters & animations (.MD5 file format), textures.
* Coders (C++ & Lua) : Yes, I never think that I could code alone for that project, there will be always a way to code if you are interested.
* Mappers : Really needed, of course.
* GUI Designer : For the User Interface, I might use a new GUI system with windows,...
* Sounds : For the footsteps, weapons firing stuff,...

As I don't have a team and a title for that project yet, I'm just using a free hosting company for the forum, team management and recruitment.

If you are interested and want to apply, feel free to post there : Linaxys Forums • Index page

I hope that work could be done with your help.

Thanks for reading,
Eltran.

I think I may contact my friend who has a graphing tablet and loves Star Wars and has had drawn his own characters and starwars story comicbooks before and ask him if he wants to suggest some characters or draw some storyboards up

As for this whole project, voice chat would be greatttt! Even though I don't like to talk to a mic just because it feels so weird, I love listening to people

Hopefully though whoever helps him in this project concetrates a lottt more on the multiplayer than the Single player, creating a single player will need hours of gameplay and just tons of work for him and whoever helps him, but multiplayer is and will always be very popular, and (I think) the most important part of the game, especially since it's unofficial

Online Collaboration is certainly getting easier, but I hope this guy doesn't make it cheesey or horrible looking by having just maybe 5 opinionated people debate (not face to face), and not share correctly (having their ideas or work methods clash) though. Having maybe 3 people do the voices for everybody (shudders), creating unbalanced powers or fighting styles, a game that is too cheesey to enjoy, not enough testing, frequent crashing, not enough video settings, and so many more problems could arise.

All I'm saying is, they better work fast, focus on the work, and work out every issue without taking so long that people forget about the game (like Jedi Academy Galaxies or whatever it is and how it's taking forever). And most importantly listen to the players! Absorb their ideas and implement them!

hmm... maybe I just should've sent him an email instead of posting this long rant that doesn't make much sense.

One thing he hasn't mentioned which may be a stumbling block is licensing.

You cannot just go and release your own star wars game, don't LA have exclusive rights and they will want it to be sold and profited etc.

Its a good idea but its not as black and white as the writer suggests.

Their was a Tv show a while back called Firefly. It hooked tons and tons amounts of people and they starting loving it. Unfortunately it was cancelled after 16 episodes (14 episodes aired).

The fanbase had become so huge that they were able help coax Universal Stuidos in to producing a big budget movie called Serenity to tie up the series. May or may not have heard of it. It was also a great stand-alone movie too I saw it before I even knew there was a series...

Anyway /endramble

Why can't this happen with JK? If they knew how much of a big market for JA is they would probably create another sequel. Even though I'm touchy on the subject of their being a sequel, since anything they could put out wouldn't even compute on my machine.

well mellisa that is a good point but the thing is Lucasarts doesnt want anything to do with jk series anymore due to lack of popularity and in my thinking it could just be a conversion mod for jk3

A mod is about as good as you might be able to squeeze then.

Lucas Arts hold the franchise and licence.

If they don't want JK4.. it won't happen. Unless people are willing to risk prosecution.

It is a shame though

A mod however will unfortunateley only temporarily extend the wilting life in the product.

The idea is a nice concept, but the reality is what we really want is "JK4" with new graphics engine and mechanics will not happen. It will be JK3.

A work around could be change the names..

Star Works: Jiggie Academy 4

Yeah, honestly he would have to contact LucasArts if he wanted to go ahead and create a whole game in the star wars universe, even if it was free and just over the internet,

Unless it is so unpopular that no companies ever notice it
