fps

My fps is normally pretty terrible. 40 is good for me. Can anyone help me with this? And please don't say google. I've tried that 4 times already and searched through many pages and couldn't find anything. I'll tell you any information you need to know. Thanks :)

What kind of processor and graphics card do you have, and how much RAM?

 #42343  by Falcon

(just copy/pasting what it says):

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T5250 @ 1.50GHz 1.50GHz
Graphics Card (don't know how much of this you need):
Display adapter type Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family
Total available graphics memory 358 MB
Dedicated graphics memory 0 MB
Dedicated system memory 128 MB
Shared system memory 230 MB
Display adapter driver version 7.14.10.1253
Primary monitor resolution 1440x900
DirectX version DirectX 9.0 or better
RAM: 2.00 GB

Check for new drivers for your graphics card. If you just reinstalled windows, there may not be drivers, which could explain why it's terrible.

You may also have messed up something. Have you installed anything recently?

FINALLY, I've attached my rendering settings, that is how I
have my game running. All variables that start with r_ are
for rendering, that is how the game is displayed to you.
Many of them are actual commands for the openGL graphics
interface the JKA (Quake 3) engine uses.
Also be aware your machine may be more powerful than mine
and won't need to go to the extremes I did, and also being
from Australia I'm guaranteed a high ping, a problem you
shouldn't have there.
Again, don't just apply them all at once!

OK, as you use a laptop you are stuck with your hardware so you can't throw in a kicking graphics card.

Now FPS is due to processing power, and what it has to process. So, firstly we have to ascertain what other applications maybe running while the game is, as they are taking up your resources.
Just because you think you aren't running other applications doesn't mean that you are not, it just means that you aren't aware of them. I'm talking about malware, unnecessary driver support applications, other stub applications and windows services.

Secondly, what it has to process. Performance will be increased by lowering the game's overheads. And for you Fal, that starts with running the game full-screen! Also lowering the game's resolution and graphical overheads such as using bilinear rendering and other rendering tweaks.

You can get a bit more performance by tweaking the connection settings like snaps, rate and so on. Also check the cvar /com_maxfps to ensure it hasn't been set too low, capping your FPS.

Anyway, I can do all this for you with crossloop :)

Hi been away for past 4 days

Your not going to significantly boost your performance of FPS without consequence of image quality. you can streamline the system a touch but your looking at 5-10% improvement However that isnt causing yoru bottle neck unfortunateley.

Your laptop is a tidy fast system except for:

Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express

Thats your bottle neck, regardless of how fast your CPU RAM etc is, your restricted here.

Thinsg weighting down on yoru system arent going to help no, but alleviating them isnt going to transform your system as the critical component has reached top gear, the rest of your system is stuck to about 2nd gear.

Things to do:

1) Despite its not likely to help much, make sure that only important things are running it can only help
2) as suggested obtain the latest driver, this may help a little if your current driver is old or not working well
3) As also suggested reduce the quality, lower resolution, change to even 16bit colur if required should help alot

4) alternativeley whats your laptop model? if you choose an external graphics card may be an option. This would of course considerably boot and give you the best option although its at a cost from your bank!

yea it was fine untill i seen your graphics card there falc, but im to late to answer..

On-board is the suck. hope getting some settings sorted works for you.. your lappy is not really meant for gaming but it will run the simplistic games like ja ok.

Hope it gets sorted again.

yea all you can do is whats suggested to possibly help push improvement slight

Your not going to be able to make tweaks to turn obselete gaming hardware into smooth high res game play

 #42418  by Falcon

Oh. Sadness. Ok, well thanks for all the suggestions everyone. Maybe someday when my budget allows it, I'll get a PC. Depends on what happens in the future I suppose. But, yeah, thanks again :)

I havent seen much but to ask your not using a Macintosh are you?

Yes the unfortunate situation is laptops are great for many many things, gaming isnt one of them

I mean the latest graphics cards are the lenght of a laptop and deeper, you couldn't contain the heat..

Yoiu can try to do tweaks to optomise it though as said

http://support.intel.com/support/chipse ... 025753.htm

HERE

is the latest driver for your card, it may improve performance somewhat.

Thanks a lot chan :) my fps went up by 15 after that download. I really appreciate it.

Stealing praise I see of already suggested by FJ and Myself  jk

Anyway good, sounds like you got an extra 20% which is a bonus.. not much more you can do really for games tbh.

Please its sorted
