Anyone else been watching it?

Chinese have been awesome and clinical in almost everything

We are in 3rd still and I think we have done exception to be there considering we have only sent less than half as many as US and China.

Cannot see US catching China up now, even though for some reason US news bullentins are now putting them at top on overall medals... Doesnt work like that, precious, Im sorry but thats Cheating. Doesnt change the fact, China are top at the minute by a considerable distance. 19 gold deficite needs to be cleared first..

Phelps got to be man of the tornament, so dominant greatest swimmer so far... Although unfair to say greatest Olympian... he gets to compete in 8 times more medals than most of the greatest.. the Decathalon 10 events al round great athletes only get one medal... You dont get 100m sprint, walk, tip tow, catapillar, backwards handstand.. Just seems a little unfair statement for other great athletes like Lewis, Johnson, Thompson etc.. Nether the less Phelps has been sublime.

the 100m mens final was funny, if that dude actually ran properly, he wud have pwned, lol

Bolt if he'd ran flat out his time would have been huge!! not that it wasnt already!!

Yeah US havent had a good tornament so far by their terms, considering they have not only a far bigger fund they also have a greater capita and send more than twice the amount of altheles than most countries.. Unfortunateley it does make a difference when coutires invest in facilities, GB invested in cycling and rowing and all of a sudden we are raking in gold in the last 3 olympics.

But now more track and field events we might see that change. China are weak in this area.

"even though for some reason US news bullentins are now putting them at top on overall medals"

Hmm not sure to believe that or not.... It would be seriously soar to do that.. Its almost liek saying we are not winning so we'll cheat the table instead.. Mind you its only the media... media types are full of it, I am sure the People and Atheltes of US are not like that..

I also agree with the althlete issue aswell, swimming hasnt been anywhere near as competitive ad track not to mention there are about 10 times more medals up for the swimmers than your track runner. Not to take away his hugly impressive rally though..!!!

Look forward to seeing more of him in London 2012! Maybe Adlington can be our female version :)

Although I agree we should have a 100m Catapilar !!

Im sorry but thats a load of bollocks

They are second and had it not been for Phelps they'd be about 8th..

Its unsporting which is why it annoys me.. China are there by right..

Although with the delusional American version it puts Australia above Great Britain !
Yea, Australia does the same thing, the media show the total medal count instead of the Golds - but they (i.e. the media) do say only the golds count, but still.
Its the "my country" syndrome (perhaps combined with a bit of sore loserness) but as Richard says the Atheletes and the People know the truth of it.
Again with the swimming, Australia is strong if that field; and by the way I have an Olympic athlete living in my suburb and I went and visited her mother at her house a couple of weeks ago, just before she went to China (Jes was already in China by then); and can only think that the orginal Olympics was pretty much only track and field - and I guess with some warping that could include swimming - but it is a stretch and I'm not going to defend it.

We pwned most of the cycling events, I cant wait for the MTB trails to start!!!

 #40818  by Richard

To be Fair Jawfin You do normally score higher than us, pretty much around what we have this one around 16?? Whereas this has been one of our best ones yet, we have got alot better in our last 3..

Has there been an area which you have maybe dropped a few golds? The Coxless 4 was a close one..

You usually very good at the swimming as you say!

Every olympics they introduce more sports is that right??

Well maybe we will introduce Twenty20 for you!! Im sure guaranteed gold for you!!

All down to investment. We had poor facilities then lottery investments our sports ministers invested alot of money into

Cycling and
Rowing

No lie... and the result is paying off..

But like with Australia we are now strong in certain events.. Would be nice that our track replicated this.. although it looks like its rubbed off a little.

When do the Mountain Bike trials start..?

I must admit some of the Cycling events are really odd like the Kieren and Sprint where they go slow tactically and almost stop for 2 laps then one darts down and then go full out till the end..

The humorous thing about the olympics in America is that our TV Stations show only Beach Volleyball, some swimming, and whatever Americans win a medal in.

It's a joke among my friends that the only sports in the Olympics are Beach Volleyball, and things Americans win. :D

 #40835  by Richard

Thats bad

We can pratically seen anything we want here, we use interactive digital and then we use the remote to pick the sport we want..

Beach volley ball? You woudl have thought of all they would have shown a better sport..

You not even get the track events?

If China get two more medals of any Colour I wonder if the tables in the NY times will change to show most bronzes at top

Cant believe China really, they only joined in 1984 and straight away were winning 16 odd medals... all of a sudden last 3 olympics they ave stepped up now they are miles ahead.. 44 golds  with half a week to go.

I didnt know thats what we had invested into lol, we should have invested in all of them, or none of them, money shouldnt become an object to win medals in the olympics lol.
Mountain bike trails start 22nd and 23rd I believe, but with half a week left theres not many days it can be :P

NOt just into olympics

It is a case that lottery money has funded us to have better facilities, a proper cycling velodrome track etc.. They have invested into the facilities aswell which is good..

Money to help improve and fun sport is a good way forward

money to saturate sport is bad

Look at Chelsea buying all the best players etc to win the cup.. football ruined by cash. NO passion, NO geuine fight.

NFL - they go to commercial after tackles and downs... talk about ruining a sport... NO passion, NO pressure NO momentum.. and for a physical sport NO intesnt game... (although im gonna make an effort to follow it more this year if i can)

These sports could be far better had the cash not ruined them.

Mark my words

The next sport to be affected finacially is Cricket

Twenty20 is about to take over the sporting world riches

 #40856  by Chantelle

Didnt England play tonight in football (never watch friendlies) They just cant be bothered anymore.

Twenty20 the big bucks?? does that mean no more Ashes? not worries to me cant really bring myself to watch cricket, or NFL... both soooooooooo slow.

Good to watch the olympics theres a sport for everyone and you can watch any sport and back your guys to do well in it..

 #40894  by saunby

Yeah cash can ruin a sport.
Richard wrote: Mark my words

Also, its okay because Jeremy Clarkson will abolish Cricket when he becomes Prime Minister ;)

You heard about that yet? XD

1) They provided all documents saying they were legal age

2) Its not unsual for host nation to get advantage, ill agree that they are often look in some favour.. BUt thats not Chinese specific, Australians got same treatment in Sydney and US got home advantage in Atalanta.

DIfferences aside the Chinese have been very impressive this tornament as hosts and competitors!!

They desereve to be winners (ignoring USAs disillusional medal table methods)

 #40918  by Chantelle

China have done a great Olympic Host.

One of the best by far, Sydney was also great and Barcelona!!

I dunno the Chinese divers are and have been the best, they are perfect...

Gymnastics is questionable and the boxing judging has been ropey!!

Although in 2012 I think we will see the same

Chinese are the best in the world. Biggest population.. best ecomony, they dont have any excuse not to be to be honest.

I wouldnt be quick to call Chinese cheap either, they provided bona fide documents.. As well as that there hasnt been any dope quesries on them has there.

Obviously theres been a few at least I hope friendly quips between GB and Australia.. but I hope they are friednly

We share a sporting rivalry in Rugby and Cricket... Which generally is mutually friendly banter.. apart from a few bitters on either side.

Would you agree Jarwin? or you not much into the sports

 #40926  by jawfin

Firmly agree Chantelle :)
We have very similar senses of humor, Australians in general, and especially me as both my parents are English anyway (most my fav comedies are older English sitcoms eg. Yes Minister). I watch and play a fair bit of sport, more cricket then rugby myself, and I find with the Olypmics I watch sports you wouldn't see much of otherwise like table tennis and badminton etc.
There is always a home team advantage, not just the crowds cheering you on, but inbetween days you are in a society you know and understand, and no language barriers.

I personally think its the media of both British and Australian who are guilty of taking things too far and getting nasty..

Go to an Ashes Match and the atmosphere I hear is awesome.

What you predict for 2009? Not a massive cricket fan Melissa plays it and is more into it.. THe test pitches here well LORDS in particular seems to last 5 days.. last 5 or so matches were draws with 4th innings of 300+ :?

I agree with Olympics you watch sports you dont normally watch like badminton and rowing archery.

Although I cannot bring myself to watch sailing.

Okay with regards to the chinese girl being underage I conceed there may be some speculation into fraudilant documents..

It would be bad that they cheated. But come on, you guys are the worst for roids takers, and you got away with it for years!

China Steal Gold in Cheating event  !

Thats been almost Guaranteed Yours for years

Just watching the Sync Swimming now, looks fascinating!

As for Ashes I think 3-1 to Aussies in next time around

Lords - Draw

Not sure of the other venues, Trafford isnt doing one so probably Headingly. Depends on how the Likes of FLintoff and Harmison continue to recapture themselves so well. And the likes of Broad and Cook come along.

We cannot have Anderson, Sidebottom and Broad all bowling I think, all swing bowlers whereas HArmi and Flintoff offer pace bounce and yorkers when the conditions do not aid the bowler ala Brett Lee.

If you mean that I'm just sad I lost, actually, I couldn't care less, since I haven't watched the olympics at all, and I don't care who wins.

Think she meant USA (not you) who have done a lion share of cheating and controversal tactics in the past.. I think it does look a little pot, kettle, black if US media or supporters are calling Chinese cheats.

Anyway It shoudlnt alywas matters who wins.. which is why I think the US media table business is a bit sour..

I think taking part in this global event is an honor, shoudlnt be about who is better than who. When it comes to major sporting event the worlds stands in union for once to compete in hopefully friendly fair games for the best of the best and the entertainment for the world

For me Usain Bolt has been the man... He is an Althetic freak. Phelps a close second but Athletics I think is more competitive plus he gets to compete in less events in comparison.. the Way Bolt ran in the 200 meters was jaw dropping.. He is the fastest Human being in history to date!!
