Anyone else tried it with or without trouble?

WSUSUSUSUSUSUSUS this morning bought it up.. I havent released it yet, thought better off it first.. I have tried it on a test laptop.

I run vista so I dunno, mine is okay as is the test laptop..

I Just dont wanna release it from WSUS to then get a hoard of issues... especially since SP2 causes me no grief..

although what I hear/ see not alot has changed apart from general updates / improvements... nothing to write home about.

I've been using what I think is RC1 or RC2 for a couple months now without any problems. I haven't tried the actual one yet though.

I haven't updated yet, although I normally wait until it updates automatically anyway ^_^. From what I gather the main changes included in SP3 are:

1. Includes all previous Microsoft updates since SP2.
2. Performance improvements (Microsoft claim a speed boost of 10%).
3. Updates that improve system stability.
4. Secruity updates to patch holes in the OS and to combat new threats.
5. Network Access Protection (NAP)- already available in Vista.
6. Fix for the random number generator that stops encryption keys being hacked.
7. Wi-Fi secruity fix (Wi-Fi Protected Access 2.0.)

Link to download is here.

You must have a lot of servers.

She didn't mention a large amount of servers. You normally have one central server as Mel said, then it updates the workstations/computers connected to the said network. It saves the network administrator having to ensure every computer has the latest microsoft updates installed.

6 servers where I work but one is a WSUS..

if you have multiple sites yo consider a wsus hierarcy no idea how ud do that)

although I never set any of this up.. it was my sister when she worked here.. she has like 30-40 servers where she works :? but 20 at main site then rest over country..

yeah basically it gives you control over what you release to updating... plus if you have multiple sites you can use it to manage wan link usage better... or something like that, tbh if you really wanted to know ud have to ask Chan she'd give you a far better guide than me which i just about know what it is.

I did a test pc it seems pretty harmless... might leave it for now and just do a few now and then. if allsa okay just roll it out

They tend to moan though when they shut down at night and it takes like 15 minutes if I queue updates on wsus.

I know she doesn't have a lot of servers, and has only one wsus.
Melissa wrote:...windows server, update server, update server, update server, update server, update server, update server, update server, update server...
Just from the above post it could seem like there is 9 wsus.
