Apparently its going to be announced soon

Not sure if its my sort of game but for those of you who have liked / played it..

Any of you with a top notch card and vista should probably see it blow XBox 360 away aesthetically as they usually do.

I havent played it on teh Xbox but heard alot of great things about it.. obviosuly with the DX10 and stuff and teh expansion mod capacity expect it to be even better if/ when it arrives PC.

idk, cuz its very graphic intensive on the 360. even a top of the line card might not be able to keep up with a comp trying to do gaimng and regular computer activity. thats one edge consoles have over all PC games

yea, its gunna be wierd, grimm and i played it allot...itl be interesting

im surprised on there decision to do this seeing as tho i thought they were focusing on a sequal...but i guess not, they def are, but im surprised they would do this

What are you talking about

XBOX 360 is a 2 year old graphics card. Th overheads for a computer yes but they are nothing too serious.. A graphics card has its own clock and memory remember so that alleviates the requirement on a the main computer core... Do not get me wrong an oldish computer would probably struggle.

8800 NVidia blows a 360 apart as it is.. But by the time this is released I wonder if it would be DX10 and the latest AMD(Ati) / NVidia offerings

While I dunno if it will be D10 I am very confident even a MID range PC now compete/ out perform an XBOX 360.

I bought an xbox 360, dont play it much, i had the money lying around so i thought might as well, PC is alot better.

I didnt find gears of war good. Its a game for blood thirsty people imo.

Its rated good because the blood, gore, guns, explosions, wounds, bodies etc are so realistic.

Pah, id rather play Super Mario racing with a friend.

ya chantelle ur right about that, but those graphic cards alone cost 300 alone for the lowest grade 8800, which is about the same as a core xbox 360, so i guess it weighs out to if u want the best stuff, u have to spend the money. i have absolutely no cash, no graphics card nearly high enuff to support that, so ill stick with gears on 360 :D

very off subject question: wut exactly is directx and wut does it do for ur graphics/gaming?

 #17683  by Chantelle

Not a massive truster of Wikipedia as it does have a lot of untrue things on there but this seems to explain far better than I could

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Direct_x

of course the latest range of cards are going to be extremely steep.. Thats because they are the latest .. although they have dropped in price considerably..

However in order for the consoles to be nearly competitive they have to well they cannot have the cutting edge of things..

PS3 contains a 7800 Nvidia based card... we are talking nearly 1.5 years old!!

THings is that these consoles are going to be projected for the next 5-10 years but with DIrect X 10 coming to Vista it will be until the next gen consoles unleess there is a major upgrade until you can get the greatness DX10 will bring

Incidentally the game in teh final few screen shots is Crysis.. if you liek FPSs that should be really good...

coming to teh PC soon, you dont need a massively awesome PC to run it either.

However if you have DX10 card and Vista you will get extra benefits also..

As far as I know this will not be coming to the consoles.. If they do however it would have to be reduced image quality..

But Personally id pursue Crysis over GOW

 #17701  by Grimm

ill check it out. i do need a new card tho anyway...im runnin a radeon x300 that can barely hold up JA or KOTOR. and since im planning to run vista, then im gonna need a new one anyway. i was checkin out a nvidia 8600, which was like $150, so thats not bad, a pretty nice christmas gift from my computer crazy uncle should do it :D

added with my already 3ghx processor and ontop of wut will be 2 and half gigs of ram, this comp should be screaming fast anytime soon.

another question (i love how alot of these threads turn into me whining about my stupid system :)) i was looking at a card that people described needed alot of power to run. i already know my system probably doesnt have the necessary power, but how can u check how many volts ur systems kikin out?

EDIT: so directx is just a really big driver essentially? that does alot of other things normal drivers wouldnt do? or is it more like a driver for software thing, so that windows knows wut to do with more advanced software?

yea i saw a show about e3 today and it will for sure be coming out on pc, looked pretty cool, even though i dont have a xbox and never played it :o

I dont think its volts its moer wattage..

With a high end card youll want something like a 500watt PSU.

Well make sure one thing if your buying a new Card

make sure your motherboard is PCI-E and not AGP... unless of course you are able to find and AGP slot version..

Do you know what I man by that or do you need help?

a 3GHz processor (whatever it may be) 2GB Ram and 8600 should be fine for gaming on Vista , hopefully by the time its got going the drivers and stuff shoudl be much improved..

You will also be able tot run AERO on it.

Direct X 10 I guess its like software which runs the sounds and graphics architecture for running programs in media... Hard to explain it really.

 #17746  by Melissa

you can see crysis DX 9 videos on youtube..

Dx10 shoudl be better though

although DX10 isnt really in swing yet..

i loves me the chainsaw gun /gg

my mothe rboard has both pci slots and an agp slot i think. the card im using now is in a pci slot tho. if this helps, this comp is a stock dell 4700 with on additional hard drive....

 #17816  by Chantelle

nope!!

PCI and PCI-E are NOT the same!!

I dont think they do them (new 8000 series ) cards in AGP... they might do but our choice will be very limited..

Sorry old bean a change to this will mean a new motherboard.

 #17879  by Grimm

0.o

dammit....

so wait, if i have a both an agp port and some sort of pci-looking port, then i have pci-e? or idk, u confused me abit.

so if i do have....wutever u say i have, wut COULD i get for a decent graphics card that would fit the mother board, i need to dodge gettin a new mother board in anyway possible

 #17886  by Chantelle

you might be able to get a 7000 series NVIDIA

PCI-E (PCI Express) is the latest graphics slot.. only newer motherboards have it

Its not teh same as teh old PCI slow and it supersedes AGP

You can get a 7950GT or an ATI X1950XT AGP obviously one or two behind the top tech but still pretty good...

Unfortunateley I believe (from chantelle) that AGP has lead its life.

 #18041  by RaVeN

Ya thats going to be my next big upgrade. Getting a MB with 3 PCI-E slots and then bridgeing 3 graphics cards on it.

That should hold out for a least a year...

AGP is not only dead but a lot slowler than PCI-E, dont invest in it. If anything hold out for a few more months and save up money for a new MB and graphics card.

 #18044  by Chantelle

AGp is X8 (latest) PCI-E is x16.. in real terms you wont notice a fat lot of difference in fact you wont notice any... not yet its a future proofing thing.

If your buying cards that last 12 months maybe dont buy 3 medium ones (wasnt sure you could do a 3 card crossfire/ SLi)

Better off buying the top range card which is usually more than one cards power anyway as they are multi chips put into a single card.

They should last you 3 years at least.

Of course your dilemma Grimm will be if you change MB now you will have to see if you can get one with a processor socket to meet your current setup.

Otherwise RAM (most likeley) and CPU will be for the switch aswell

If your lucky you might be able to keep your mouse

 #18086  by Grimm

ya right melissa, my 15 dollar laser mouse spazes out and wrecks photoshop projects, games and basic desktop stuff :) and my keyboard has like 5 stuck keys from various liquids. and my speakers can be used as guitar amps with natural sound distortion, they dont have those filters. my monitor kicks ass tho, 17 inch lcd :)

no mother board changes. wen i get enuff money im getting my own laptop and ill spend money on that. is there any possible way that graphics cards can be used in laptops, or do u have to buy a specific laptop GC?

 #18095  by Chantelle

Laptops and high spec gaming do not mix

If you want a gaming machine get a desktop

Cheaper and much more power and well better graphics too.
