In a former life I was paid to do a bit of linguistics... This thread is fascinating.

How did "based" even enter the modern English lexicon? What's its definition? Its etymology?

Is it short for "DEbased"? Is it "based" on some lost cultural reference? Did it originate as a way to describe a behavior in its most "base" form?

Is it an adjective? Adverb? Verb? Complete statement? Descriptor? What is its purpose? Its function in language? What does it mean, and where did it come from?

Internet slang is a neat little phenomenon. We get to watch the English language change in real-time in our own lifetime!

It is, words like ''chad'' ''based'' are itself on another meanings, and used to indicate a person that is excellent in different subjects, (other words are ''redpilled'' ''blackpilled'' with different topics each, but this ones comes from The Matrix movie)

in ''Argentinian'' spanish there are even more weird references, normally streamers, youtubers and influecers makes this words common among the young. for example there is the word ''Ndeah'' (an abreviation of ''Ni idea'', which means I have no idea) as a repetitive language slang (Like in english, where the word ''Like'' ''Because'' ''I think'' between different phrases) other words are ''De nazi'' (Of nazi) to mean that you are going to do something inmediatly, or ''Ahrre'' which funnily sounds like a horse, and is used as a repetitive slang (like because, or ''like'') and much more
