Hear me out and please let me know what you think : )

What IF....Anakin Skywalker was the Chosen one...but not for the light. Long ago the Jedi wiped out the Sith and pushed them into the outer reaches of space and the Jedi kept peace for many years. This pushed the galaxy heavy towards the light. The force seeks to keep balance and there was far too many "light side" Jedi in the universe. Luke said, the views of the Jedi became dogmatic and many of their choices where not always good. Yoda talks to Ezra about the Jedi order giving in to fear and making bad decisions in Star Wars Rebels. The force created Anakin to return the balance, which is why he was always drawn to the dark side. Even as a young teenager he was pulled to darkness, power, vengeance, and the desire for more. The prophecy was correct, Anakin (the chosen one) did bring balance to the force...from a certain point of view.

In an episode of Star Wars Rebels, Bendu hints to Kanan Jarrus that he and his kind (the Jedi) are arrogant and that maybe it was the will of the force to end the Jedi (The "light" side Jedi we knew then). Now the reverse has happened. After order 66 the Empire and now First Order have taken control of the galaxy and pushed the pendulum in the opposite direction towards darkness. Again, the force seeks to keep balance. So again the chosen one is created, Rey. Rey is the new chosen one to push the pendulum again. As Snoke said, The light rises to meet the darkness. This is also why Rey's parents, like Anakins, aren't important. Kylo Ren probably wasn't lying...from his point of view.

This would explain why she is so powerful and and can learn to do things incredibly quick like little Anakin could (speak several languages, pilot craft with little to no training at incredible speeds and master technology with ease, and combat with the same ease.) By the time Anakin was a teenager he was one of the best students with a lightsaber and that added to his frustrations and feelings that the Jedi are not teaching him everything they know. Rey is a bit older than teenage Anakin and has been surviving alone on a desert planet with some rough neighbors. I'm sure she has learned to fight a bit herself and now compound that with her learning to channel the force and you get some leaps in skill.

Luke Skywalker and Ben solo are the offspring of the chosen one but they are NOT the chosen one. Some of that power may have been passed down but I doubt that power is even close to the same strength as the actual Chosen One. I would bet that Anakin would have been even more powerful than the Darth Vader he became if he had not lost most of his body and ended up relying on mechanical assistance. Who knows how strong the chosen one could have been. I doubt Kylo Ren has faced someone with that level of ability. Which is also why Rey was able to resist Kylo Ren. The prophecy of the chosen one is as old as the fight between Jedi and Sith. Who knows how long this cycle of war has been going on. This could explain why Luke believed the Jedi needed to end to stop the cycle. This might also be why in Reys vision in 'The Last Jedi' she saw multiples of herself in a line to signify the cycle and repeated creation of the Chosen One.

My conclusion...What if the destiny of the chosen one is to bring TRUE balance to the force. In the last Jedi we see a symbol of the " Prime Jedi in meditation with the light and dark side of the force" on the ground of the first Jedi temple. What if the Chosen One is the Prime Jedi. If so, then I find myself wondering...What if the Prime Jedi was the one who originally threw off the balance in the universe by leaning too much towards darkness and falling to the dark side himself, maybe even creating the Sith and starting this cycle of war. And if true then maybe the Prime Jedi falling to the dark side is what pushed the original Jedi order to abandon teaching neutrality and the dark side of the force in fear that in time all Jedi would fall to the dark side.

What if now the Prime Jedi is destined or cursed by the order of the Whills to be reincarnated over and over as the chosen one until they can re-establish the balance they threw off. The chosen one has now destroyed the two factions, Jedi and Sith, which were created by the actions of the Prime Jedi and now all that is left of that conflict of light and dark is Rey and Kylo Ren.. Rey as the chosen one must find balance for herself then pass down that knowledge of both the light and dark side of the force like they did in ancient times in order to truly end the conflict the Prime Jedi originally created and bring true balance back to the force and the galaxy. The question is can she do that by learning from Kylo Rens mistakes and help him find balance for himself? Then we would have 2 balanced force users, one coming from the light and one from the dark that can start a new order based on balance. Or will she have to destroy him, the last remnant of the conflict the Prime Jedi / Chosen one created and teach the new era of Jedi the way of balance alone like the Prime Jedi did long ago.

The whole chosen one thing and balancing the force should never of happened either. It changed the force from a, as han solo said, "all power force controlling everything" to a static force controlled by powerful beings. That was one of the great things about the old books and stories-strength in the force did not come from controlling it but by controlling oneself to fully submit to the force.

good point john! I almost completely forgot that's how I originally felt about the force. I don't mind the chosen one concept if he is a being who the force (through some gift or phenomenal birth) flows freely through thus has access to great power with ease. I would definitely like it more if it doesn't cut off the idea that others can do the same thing through training or opening themselves completely to the force.
I think that's kinda how Qui-Gon Jinn viewed the force as something you couldn't control . He often didn't agree with the jedi council and I think Luke kinda says in The Last Jedi that the idea of being able to control the force is wrong when he is training Rey.
Bendu in Starwars Rebels did probably some of the most amazing feats of strength with the force we have seen in canon yet and he wasn't a "chosen one". That makes me wonder now maybe the balance concept is doing that in a way, as saying anyone can be as strong as the chosen one through balance within yourself . Bendu kinda says that to Kanan Jarrus in Rebels. I might be putting lipstick on a pig but damn I hate seeing something I love die xD I personally didn't like The Last Jedi so I'm still trying to make sense of the direction they went with it.

"What IF....Anakin Skywalker was the Chosen one...but not for the light"

It never was for the light, he was the chosen one for complete balance, and I think we are still seeing that.

Anakin not only destroyed the jedi, but essentially destroyed the sith. In the new movies, there are neither now, all that remains are Luke, Leia, Rey, and to balance that, the Knights of Ren.

The Bendu tries to explain that which Kreia / Darth Traya tried to explain long ago, the sith and the jedi are but titles, and they mean nothing. Where there is dark, there is light, and trying to have one side prevail will lead you to a never ending cycle of damnation, as in the end, the Force will balance it out.

Anakin being the chosen one wasn't moreso that he is a powerful force wielder, but it was that the force saw opportunity to use him to bring balance. An example of this is seen in the famous jedi phrase, "May the Force be with you". The Force is around us, it is us, it is every living thing (and some even argue non-living, as some droids have been believed to be Force sensitive), so why would the Force need to be "with you"?

The Force exists whether people can feel it or not, and we do not control the force, but merely help the Force flow. "Let the Force flow through you" is also commonly heard. This is because the Force is like a stream, always flowing, and we are like fish, riding down the stream, helpless against its flow. We can either go with the flow, and allow us to live better, and help the stream flow, or we go against it and end up being hurt by the flow.

Anakin being "chosen" is no more than the Force knowing that great possibilities can come out of him. The chancellor taking favour in him, his position within the jedi order, it was all perfect for the Force.

Where we see a long, complicated story, the Force saw a path down the stream that had less rocks and an opening to keep flowing, and that is the path the Force calls Anakin.
