I just wanted to say, I enjoyed it. Every *second* of it :P

Spoilers****:

At first I was disappointed at how quickly it ended, like, wow, literally 1 second battle. But then, after analyzing it, it was extremely clever. Watching Kenobi and Maul's forms, it kinda goes like this:

> Obi-wan takes an offensive stance
> Maul takes a defensive stance
> Obi-wan notices the stance, and switches to a defensive stance...the same one that Qui-Gon took during his fight with Maul :o!!!
> Maul recognizes the stance, and switches to the same stance that he had when fighting Qui-gon.

***The fight starts***

> Maul uses the same strategy he used on Qui-Gon, thinking this will be an easy kill as it was before, but Kenobi anticipates the move, diverts the saber strike to the side, knowing that Maul will try to hit his head like he did to Qui-gon
> Kenobi takes this chance to hit Maul with an overhead attack, which cuts his saber, and his chest, in half.

Maul then has a few meaningful words with Kenobi, asking him about his purpose on Tatooine, to protect someone. He asks Kenobi, if he is the chosen one. Kenobi nods, and closes Maul's eyes as he becomes one with the force.

So there we had it, a battle between two great characters in one second. As I said before, at first I was greatly disappointed and in disbelief, but now thinking about the symbolism and thought processes during this; this might be one of the most clever battles in Star Wars history.

SPOILERS

I'm mixed on this battle. They hyped this battle up a lot, so I was hoping for an epic, drawn out showdown between them. I also thought they'd be incredibly evenly matched like before, rather than Obi-Wan winning in 3 stikes. Throughout the entirety of TCW and Rebels I wasn't happy with how they handled Maul. He went from this silent, calculating Sith to something a lot more typical. A rage filled, reckless Sith. I think he was less reckless in TCW, he was intelligent and charismatic enough to be able to amass armies and take control over a planet.

I'm also disappointed that this happened in Rebels. I was really hoping Obi-Wan would get his spinoff movie and the fight would happen there. The fact that the fight can be shown in one gif is a little meh as well.

That all said, part of me likes that Obi-Wan won in a second. Obi-Wan was done perfectly, I feel. The psychological warfare was really well done. It is interesting to see how these characters have grown. Maul has become someone with a one track mind, someone with severe tunnel vision. Whereas with Obi-Wan, as he said he's risen above that kind of degradation. It just shows the Maul is no longer the kind of fighter who picks apart his opponents like he did in TPM, he's just the pure aggressor. I liked that bit of the fight. I like Qui-Gon's influence in the fight. I also fully accept that both of these combatants are massively out of their prime (Maul's prime likely being TPM and Kenobi's prime being ROTS). Even if I'm disappointed, I can't ignore the clever thought process behind the stances. After thinking about it a lot, I am happy with the fight, I think.

I just saw it, and it reminds me of the great fights in the original trilogy. So much is conveyed through emotion. Normally I'd be very upset that it wasn't a great fight, but it just goes to show how reckless Darth Maul had become, and how wise and capable Obi-wan had become. He had tripped over himself in his quest to find Obi-wan.
I can feel the developers' temptation to make the fight last longer. They had done this for nearly every other fight, so I have to respect them for that.

This fight proves Maul's legacy had to be over. He was getting out of his mind the whole time in Rebels and even his fighting style was getting rusty. Kenobi, on the other hand, has gained a lot from the solitude he faced in Tattoine and still had 'the old magic' unlike his opponent. He just seems to grow like some good wine. Discipline and Consistency were key in this fight.

Of course I was disappointed about this fight being short, but in the end, it was logical.

I went emotional when Maul says 'He will avenge us'. Why do you have to bring the feels, Maul!?!

Saw this and LOVED it... sure, the Star Wars geek in me wanted the battle to be longer and drawn out, but it makes SENSE that Obi-Wan would win so easily now after so many years contemplating the force and communing with Yoda/Qui-gon.

Definitely a "feels" moment as he died.

Now they have to find something else for Sam Witwer to do  ... because Sam Witwer is amazing!

Buffy's Shadow wrote:It's nice to see the new canon is still recycling things from the older EU. *Shrugs*
The funny thing is that it was one of the more disliked ideas back when it first came out.

Indeed. It was in one of those 'What If' comics that were non-canon immediately when they came out.

Yes I saw this and ya clearly obi wan had the upper hand he was more mature and skilled. Would have been nice to see more lightsaber battles but it's nice to see how short and sweet it is. I like how they show little luke running home.. I wonder if rebels is gonna follow this path to a new hope or they strictly gonna focus on the crew instead. They better not run out of ideas. Star wars has tons of stories to add.
