So, I recently got three of the original Elder Scrolls games installed on my PC through DOSbox. I love next-gen graphics as much as the next guy (Even though the graphics don't make a game for me), but sometimes it's fun to go back and see how far things have come.

Oh yea I do this all the time. I have quite a few old DOS games I can still load up through dosbox. Imperium Galactica, Settlers II ... ahh ... memories :)

There's even a free MMO called Starport that I thought about seeing If could get a few people from here on the forums to play together with. It uses some pretty old style graphics, though they're not TOO old.

Only retro games I played were on nintendo and the original x-box. On nintendo I played Mario 64, mariocart racing, marioparty, banjo and kazooie, banjo and tootie, donkey kong 64, turok, a couple wrestling games i can't remember the names of, Star wars shadows of the empire, rogue squadron, star wars podracer, a tom and jerry brawler game, golden eye 64, and chameillion.
for my original x-box,

for the games that can't be seen here, i have chronicles of narnia, batman begins, mech assault, and several copies of jedi academy.

Retro gaming is the only way to go. Really the only games I've gotten for new systems stopped at n64. After that, I bought jk2, jka, wow, and swg at release. For the last 15 years or so, I've only bought consoles years after release. I bought Wii about 5 or 6 years for super mario, dk, and the lego games (btw all mostly AMAZING games), and then Xbox 360 about 3 years ago for the Halo games, and of course the new lego games (not available for wii any longer).

My favs:
Sega:
the original mortal kombat...I remember being 7 or 8 yrs old and fighting goru at 7am lol.
Sonic 2...I remember never getting passed the aqua run level (returned to as an adult and can speed run it now lol).
Sonic and Knuckles...PLUG IN AN OLD GAME AND IT ADDS KNUCKLES ANDD MORE LEVEL FEATURES?!?!@!?!@ OP. GGNORE.
Streets of Rage series....and the Spiderman game, Maximum Carnage...best sidescrollers to date...Contra has an honorable mention here too.

NES
Super Mario 3...one of the best games ever made. Learned to speed run this too! My best time was 16 minutes.

SNES
Super Mario World and Mario Kart...clutch, classic.
Street Fighter series and Primal Rage...yes. THE fighter games. That raptor in primal rage will flawless you.
DKC and in particular Donkey Country 3...my favorite game of all time maybe? I logged 100s if not 1000s of hours playing this...once speed ran it in 34 minutes, got 105%? in 2hr and 30 minutes (or something like that...twas about 10 years ago now)!

Playstation
Crash Bandicoot and Gex the Gecko...Remember them, praise them. Avoid alligators, avoids TNT. Crash was so hard to over 100%.
ALL of the Marvel fighter games...X-men children of the atom, marvel super heroes, x-men v street fighter, marvel v capcom...these games started a whole sub-series of competitive gaming....135 hit combo, hyper combination finish, Berserker Barrage X, Wolverine wins.
Road rash

Dreamcast
Sonic adventure and Crazy Taxi...yiss exploration and time challenges. go fast. need to go fast.
Mod chipping...my friend and I beat almost 100 older games using mod chipping for the first time and a disc with 100s of roms.

N64
Everything. Really. Obviously graphics have come a far way, and the controller requires 3 hands but...
mario 64, kart 64, mario party, wave runner, dk64, shadows, pod racing, star fox, zelda, smash bros, golden eye, the wrestling games, it's endless. So many hits, so little time and space. I remember spending many nights eating dominos and getting drunk with my friends playing all of these titles until 5am.

I mentioned the newer consoles above...thanks for reading...buy older systems. Play them, hold them. Sleep with your link to the past cartridge.

^ Well said Sh!nk. I have a PS3 currently, but it's altogether a system generation that doesn't have nearly as many quality games as the older ones. Only thing enticing about PS4 to me is the next Elder Scrolls game, and Last of Us Part II.

Overall, I've got

PS1
PS2
PS3
N64
Gamecube (Silver version)
Genesis (Both versions)

I used to have an original Xbox, but it got the red ring way back in high school. I'd love to get a SEGA Saturn at some point.

Oh man, I haven't heard anyone bring up the infamous Dreamcast in forever. The number of hours I logged in Crazy Taxi (or countless times controllers were thrown in frustration)... Love it!
