okay this sounds more like an issue with your operating system's settings or something if you can't open a folder. Is there an error or some reason as to why you can't open it?... Or do you just double-click it and nothing happens?

How about you record what you're doing or post screenshots so we really know what's going on.

Alright, so I opened up my Gtk, and I think I know what you should do. Open it up, select Jedi Academy for the game you are mapping for. Once it's open, click on "File" at the very top. Scroll down to "Project Settings", and click it. Under Project Settings, you will see it says, "Basepath", followed by a bar. Click on that bar, and input the location of your jedi academy/gamedata/base folder, then press "OK" on the top right hand side. That should do it.

EDIT:

So you know what to do from here, keep reading.

Once you establish where the destination path for the base folder is, make a box or whatever. At the top, click on "Textures", it is on the same place as you found "File" from before. Once you click on Textures, scroll down and select the texture folder you wish to use. Now select the box (when making a new box it should automatically be selected), and press "T". T is the hotkey to bring up the texture application window. Double click the texture you want, and ta-da. You have a textured box.

last night we found out (on server) his shaders folder was empty -- I sent him all the game's shaders and a shaderlist.txt but that didn't fix anything ( and would've been a problem anyway ). Hopefully it's something as simple as missing basepath. Thing is, I thought GTK Radiant always asked for a basepath anyway during installation. Maybe if it wasn't set properly, the shaders were never installed which would explain why they weren't there and why putting them there didn't change anything.

Now that I'm thinking about it, I doubt shaders would be a problem here. Shaders are just for texture enhancement or edits, and I can see how it can be a necessity for the program, however think about the process of adding custom textures. No shader file is necessary for their usage in GTK, or at all for that matter.

This might be either an error with the directory, or an error of the computer v. program. In that case I'd recommend running it as admin. If not, follow the steps I had suggested in the earlier post.

As I said, go to "Project Settings" under "File", and put your proper directory. For many, it might be "C:\(Name)\ProgramData\LucasArts\Jedi Academy\GameData\base", but it might be different. It just depends where your game is.

Once you do that, press OK, and- you know what, hold on:

Boom. Picture tutorial. Can't mess this up now >: D

it's in Gamedata so i use gamedata?

No, you use GameData/base.

Basically, the program is looking for the assets files, and by chance all other pk3 files that are used for the game, and where are all the files all located? Base folder. So that is where you have to "tell" the program where to find all the files.

So, set it to gamedata/base.

No, no you don't type gamedata/base, you type in the location.

Ok, here is an easy way to get the location. You have a Shortcut for jedi academy, yeah?

Right click the shortcut on your desktop, it should look like this:

Now copy whatever gets highlighted. That is your directory. Go to:

And paste whatever you copied into that bar and press ok.

Ok, tell what it says in that bar where you are supposed to write the directory path.

Also make sure you did the other stuff I mentioned such as clicking the texture folder and then pressing T.

@Mand, actually the shaders are important, some (and I think many) textures have shaders that are normally used everywhere (like system shaders ... caulk, player clip, physics clip, etc) ... the difference is you're using raw textures which is OK but not ideal

@key ah, I see. Yeah does make sense.

@green eggs and ham

This entire time we were all here guessing what's the problem, could you explore a bit, see what isn't happening for this to not work?

It's like you take a car to the mechanic and say "FIX IT". He needs to know what's broken. Since you said the textures weren't appearing we assumed it was either directory or shaders, but now we are clueless.

Literally the last thing I have to recommend is open it as administrator. Other than that, we need more info.

run radiant as administrator?

Right click it and press run as admin.

Don't mean to be discouraging here, but if you are facing troubles this early on then you will face many troubles while mapping. It isn't as easy as mappers make it sound.

well it is a very common problem on the internet i looked it up and i've seen a lot of threads about it so it isn't a issue on how i installed radiant and on my other pc i have radiant on there as well though i see some textures but not a lot in fact hardly any so there's about 5 or 6 or something like that maybe less idk but some

As I said, unless you give us more to go on, we can't really help. Also remember, you only see the textures for the texture folder you are looking in, so when pressing on bespin in the textures tab thing, pressing T will only show bespin textures.
