Oooooooookay! I have a math problem to solve and I've really cracked my head on it but my efforts were to no avail. Guess i'm really a maths retard. Can some kind geniuses out there pls help?

Question:

only had a quick look but not sure what the parameters are

can you overlap?

also does it need to be solid in the middle ?

If not its then it should b easy i think

No overlapping allowed and yes it has to be a solid square with 3.16227766cm sides :?

hmm this might not work... but its a thought cut it into 4 equally sized triangles as marked in the diagram and you should in theory get a perfect square just make sure your centre line is in the exact centre of your base line that would make it 2.5 cm in you fit them together by leaving the hypotenuese as the outer edge of your square... ie the side you cut along I think been a while since i used pythagorus's terms

You might be right I just quickly done a calculation based on the theroum and it comes to

3.20cm

I actually mis read the orginal question  I read it as 4 x the regtangle. I did say i only half read it!!.. but based on 50/50 and it being right angle its not equalateral I dont think? which is why I wonder if its going to be rombus shaped! :S

Thats my worry but all the slanted sides should be of equal length as long as you keep the cuts precise, so its just a matter of fitting them equally together so all the slant sides face outwards, unsure as with an odd and an even measurement could indeed produce a rhombus its just a matter of testing it out really, but in theory it should work

And of course need to check the angle the acute angles of each triangle comes too as you may need to mix and match the pieces in order to make perfect 90 deg's

Well, i've tried that method be4, and yes it ends up with a rombus.

pretty sure triangles are the way to do it though you just need to cut them so the angles are half of the right angles 45 deg

I gave up on math when i realized i had a Tip calculator on my cell phone

But i know, one day, im really gonna kick myself in the ass when i need to save the world by turning a rectangle into a square.

And if i know aliens (and i do) they are going to take over the world with math problems...evil green square loving bastards

its a pitty it has to be solid

its just taht looking at your diagram, there are 4 right angles there. and you could easily make a square with that but thast irrelevant if you cant do that.

Trigonometry isnt my strenght at all
