IE7 is almost an exact replica of Firefox - I personally think Microsoft are cheap and should start thinking up some new ideas instead of using others.

There are a few websites around taking the piss out of Microsoft for this mistake. I think one of them is called 'Microsoft Firefox' and on it it shows screenshots of IE7 and if you go to the download page of MS Firefox, you can download IE7 xD

Firefox... Had it few months ago, when was moderator on one popular Pocket PC database russian web page. In some way i agree, but in other way... Firefox after using it about 5 weeks started crashing my internet, so i never use it again. Internet Explorer is very easy program to browse internet, but it isnt bad at all. Then there is a Maxthon, it is similar to Firefox and my parents use it alot. So 3 types of internet browsers.

Internet Explorer - Easy browser to just check some web pages, not bad options.

Firefox - Good browser with much and nice options and much more. Doesnt like Firewalls as BitDefender and few others ( BitDefender just block all internet when you run a firefox )

Maxthon - Internet browser between Internet Explorer and Firefox. Recommended for people, whitch works alot with internet as house companies etc.

i have ie7, i think its ok, not hard to navigate but pho's right, microsoft are a bit cheap, i think its a complete copy of firefox with a couple of minor differences. I cant really be arsed with firefox tho coz i have ie7 anyway, it does the job and thats that tbh.

I use FF for the secruity more then anything. People are always going to target IE to hack more then FF for obvious reasons. Same with Windows and Mac. How many Mac virus's are there? About what - 100? Windows targeted viruses, more then you could count.

That is true. Just big pitty that FireFox for people as me just do problems.. AS when i run Firefox, internet crash, so i have to delete it and restart computer to have internet again.

thats another reason i dont use IE7, it crashes MY internet for somereason. u know the little sound it makes wen it opens a page, the little click sound? well wen i open any version of IE it goes click click click click, and never stops until i close it (that is if i can get it closed thru the "application has encountered a problem" thing)

so i trust firefox alot more, and microsoft pretty much just ripped them off for IE7

IE ftw... ! had firefox for about a week, that mulit tab feature was neat... and managed better on firefox.... however can do exact same with IE and well... IE I find faster so go IE!!!!

I.E. is too interlinked with Windows. If I.E crashes, there's a good chance every explorer window you have open will crash as well. Works both ways, too. Firefox is far easier to manage when you've got a lot of windows going at once. I've never found I.E faster than Firefox, either, but that's up for grabs.

I been using FF for years personally it my preference

have IE 7 on my works lappy, as its a widescreen expensive jobby it streches it whereas FF doesnt

IE is playing catchup with FF and others... IE only just got tabbed browsing.. but IE 7 still a step up.

tabbed browsing is just so much desirable nowerdays.

To me its all the same....a browser is a browser and now they all have pretty much the same features. I have IE7, FireFox, Maxthon, MyIE2(basically old maxthon), Opera, and Netscape(Mozilla based) on my comp. I used to have others but of course they were old and eventually I got rid of them.

They ALL basically have the same features now...its like eating a starburst candy. You may like one flavor more than the other but its still a starburst.

For security purposes a person should avoid IE7(unless you have a very secure network <---5 Firewalls), Firefox has security but not nearly as much as it used to do to the fact its popularity has Sky-rocketed since its release, Maxthon/MyIE2 has good security and is Skinnable which is a plus but it cant view transparent images(makes the background orange), Opera is actually pretty old but trustworthy and is best with downloading files(It even has a packaged torrent plugin making it much easier then using your own plugins), Netscape is now mozilla based so its basically just a different looking firefox .

As for other differences.....looks...and...thats about it. They now all tab and all have very similar features really...a person should just try them all and see which one he/she likes best. There are way more than just these I have said and there are plenty that specialize in specific interest.

examples: LoliFox = Firefox for anime fans, uBrowser = FireFox in 3D cube based on OpenGL, UltraBroswer = A pretty IE with a very advanced and light weight GUI and so forth. 3B = Crazy webbrowser which makes your websites into a city/giant mall of sorts.


edit: oh and as for speed....its only a browser so they all move about the same. Maxthon can actually close tabs with a double click unlike firefox so technically a person can....move faster when closing things ...

When it doesnt i think its crap, and i get jealous towards those that have the internet working

I think you'll find FF and Opera run much faster than IE.

Especially opening and also processing of images and such.. u load them side by side and youd see.. plus they are much more code efficient, IE is very top heavy.

Yes its a browser but it all eats available RAM and resources..

Its just one step behind at the moment. I mean the features IE just got everyone else had ages ago..

I also personally use Thunderbird instead of outlook for home IMAP/ POP3 email.

Although a good point is raised through exposure FF is naturally becoming a target.

As far as exposure goes, Microsoft has a tendency to release programs before they are ready. I believe they actually pissed off Symantec because they released Vista before the company had time to completely ensure that Norton was prepared to do it's job for the new OS. I wouldn't be suprised if we find I.E. being exploited like any other Microsoft product. Not to say Microsoft isn't involved in providing better service for its users, but usually companies dedicated only to the software in which they own tend to update, patch, etc... that software more often.

well MS have indeed a problem which they created..

they try to make their vista and such secure and even bundle in anti virus etc but symantech and such kick off saying its against competiveness

Vista however is by default on a basis to be a more secure platform, whether not initially the focus is much more security based.. when xp was released most ppl didnt use a firewall or av on the net and there didnt feel such a need as there is today.. so symantech et al are panicing anyway.. they like to operate on scare monger tactics..

thing with MS is since they do have maority it does make their target a little larger, i know obscuirty is an argument many dismiss

MS have certainly come to realise though that unless they get their act together they will lose revenue, its down to complacancy, but market wise its good alround.

I got Vista for Christmas.

I would rather be running on a 1989 Mac then running on Vista. Honostly.
It won't let me run limewire. It won't let me run my Kill Tracker. For gods sake, it won't even let me import audio into windows movie maker!!!

Don't get it. Absolutely horrible.

Nah. Best choice is install Windows XP Proffesional and then install Vista skin... It just changes the view of window in Vista's ( pretty one ) , but you can run everything you want still

you must have gotten vista business as normal home editions are not released yet!

i have been beta testing it.

there is going to be at least 6 months before i do a proper roll out of a live system.

it does move onto a new software front, but teh move is inveitable, especially for gamers.. new games taking advatage of direct X 10 will only run on vista.

Vista does in fact offer a good few advantages over XP, but before that to come to he forefront they need to iron those out usually after public exposure, thats why 6 months at least, especially since some drivers just are not vey good.

Also JA, u might find your not gonna be running it on vista, maybe, maybe not but opengl doesnt appear to be supported well.

Main reason why your having compatabllity issues will be partially down to teh fact your trying to use something not officially released yet (unless your using the business edition) but support for these should improve one the official release is made good.

Sirion - using themes on XP doesnt give you aero or even close to vistas look and interface.. some people dont like aero however but i think its kinda cool.

I have no doubt that they will bring out an update patch for use with opengrl based games Chan. Microsoft dont want to have to face the critasizms of the game designers if they dont.. Wouldnt be a good launch

I probably won't be getting Vista for a year or so, mostly because I don't feel like jumping into a new operating system while they're still tightening the screws and filling in the holes. That, and I don't like paying for any Windows OS. By then, I'm guessing I can find a Vista PC somewhere in my college's departments and get the key from there to use. I'll be damned if I waste 300 dollars on an OS.

As far as aero goes, I think Microsoft is on the right track. The only thing I like from Macs and OS X would be the GUIs. I personally had to download custom icon sets and visual styles just to feel more streamlined and awesome. So thumbs up, Microsoft, even if you aren't original.

Well JA works fine on Vista, but my kill tracker doesn't. It won't even run.

I just restored my comp with XP again. Everythings back to normal.

I'm taking Vista back -_- no way its getting on my machine for a year or so. Only good thing about it is that it boots my comp really fast and it looks cool.
