oh trust me, there's quite a few nuts out there that think the earth is 5,000 (thousand) years old. quite a few more that think we're the only possible life. sad isn't it?

That's actually a more common misconception than you think. I was once in a museum and this mother was showing her kids a picture of the Milky Way Galaxy and pointed to the center saying that it was our sun...and that Earth was one of the dots circling that sun...

I wanted very much to correct her for both her sake and that of her kids, but I didn't in the end...

And now a picture of the Milky Way and the location of where our sun is in it: (shamelessly stolen from Wikipedia)
Image

I cant wait until Google Earth extends to Google Galaxy. That would be sweet to start out on our Galaxy far far away and be able to zoom in to street view outside my apt...one day..one day.

Always find this stuff amazing

you may need to open up teh picture to see our Sun is only one pixel big on the scale of other stars in our solar system

Google earth and Microsoft telescope allow you to browse around the stars a bit

Sadly where I live in the city it is not so easy to see the stars at night..

But When I do get the chance I do stare and wonder..

It really does open your mind!
