hey if anyone heard or didnt hear, windows 7 is now out as a public beta. i started torrenting it and its already 10% after just half an hour. im thinking of installing it on a separate 20gb partition and running side by side with vista because i dont wanna lose vista as the beta for 7 runs out on august 1st.

if anyone else is downloading it/tried it out etc, keep me posted, i wanna hear all about it.

heres a link to a good torrent if anyone wants to try. just remember to go to microsofts website and register urself so u can get a product key.

the microsoft website didnt seem to work for me, might be a little backed up from all the downloads.

there are some direct download sites but i prefer torrent in almost all situations so ull have to find the direct sites by urselves as i have no knowledge of any good ones.

have fun with it

Hopefully it will allow all games to be played.

Not tried it yet but hear it even the beta works pretty good.. Looks like they are bucking their ideas up a bit, As I understand there are or intends no application issues so what works on vista should work on 7.

I will be trying it out but need to get a test machine ready

They have had it out a lot longer than that!

I am going to obtain a copy and setup a test bench perhaps here at work.. maybe at home

Allegedly another IT colleague of mine reckons the resource usage is significantly better, well its less than Vista so for a successor sounds good.

i dont know why everyone complains about vista, honestly. i used windows xp pro since its release and moved to vista recently. it took some adjusting, but its so much smoother and efficiant. true its hard on the machine, but as technology grows the hardware has to as well.

gonna be installing 7 tonight hopefully.

I agree, the only gripe I have had is i noticed it was more hardware hungry which to be honest I have been lucky to not see the effects due to specification, even on my work laptop.

However Windows 7 is supposed to be better for handling resources.

Remember this is FIRST beta though so it may be a little buggy, but given its praise so far and the differece made between BETA 1 2 and RC 1 2 on Vista its a good sign they are pulling out their finger for this one.

If it does not run JKA; it fails!

Yet to test that, but it should work fine.

I am amazed after all this time LA have not produced a sequel.

installed yesterday, played around a bit. atm, it is very buggy and many things are incompatible, which is understandable. i could finish installing all my drivers becuz some complained that it wasnt vista....which i guess more or less is the drivers fault. however i was a little surprised when i couldnt install pidgin or adobe flash....

in terms of layout, i like it a lot, the new taskbar is much more efficient and in general navigating the space is very easy.

in general, the difference between the "OS Footprint" is incredibly noticeable. its very easy too tell how much lighter windows 7 is than vista.

the main problem i have now is that all of the permissions are a little screwed up. i couldnt download anything because my username/appdata folder at first didnt exist, then after manually trying to create it, it complained that i had to verify the action by apparently hitting "OK" but the button didnt show up, i could only hit cancel. therefor i was not able to download the file at all. i manually created the folder in vista and have yet to try and download something as i have not switched back over to windows 7 yet.

UPDATE: fixed the problem after it worsened to the point where i could not make a folder anywhere, not desktop, not my user folder. etc. the option to confirm an action only displays itself when UAC is on. if UAC is not on, the dialog box still comes up, but the option to tell the dialog box its ok to do wut it needs to do does not, and the action is jammed.

recommended solution: leave UAC on, i turned mine to the lowest annoyance setting and im still able to make folders whenever i please...

Not surprising at all its buggy although a few people I know have found little issue with it so far.

When you think Vista Beta 2, not beta 1 but 2 was horrendously slow and extremely buggy..

Some of the touch screen capability is good too.. although to be honest I am not sure how much you will replace from the keyboard and mouse.

Alot of touch screen devices I find more gimmick than practical.

i agree. the only touch screen ive been able to use without any kind of problem is the apple itouch and iphone screens. they are far superior to any other cell phone touch screens. idk about pc touch screens or tablets as i havent used them but i really have no intention to, i like the classic keyboard and mouse entry

I just hope it's (edit:) not* a horrible ripoff of Vista with a couple mac ideas thrown in, sure Vista works and looks a little better, but it wasn't worth any money

From what I've seen in windows 7, just from youtube videos lol, it looks okay, definitely an improvement from Vista, and they finally rewrote windows explorer (about time!!) but nothing has really wow-ed me yet or made me think it's worth 100+ dollars
