Heres the thing.. gimp...is..to say the least not as resourcefull as PS..you can make some really awesome designs in it though as ive seen alot of people do. But photoshop is what every uses..
Your designs are good for a first go at gimp.. photoshop on the other hand would have been better.. the options/effects etc are alot more easy to get to and traverse.. yiou can create anything when you no what your doing.. atm im thinking of picking it up again and making a new metal interface for kicks.. and a banner for my eve corp. i dont use someone elses work .. and then think.. wow i can recreate that... imagination will drive you to create whats in your head... if my art teacher seen half the things ive created before he dropped me from my GCSE class he would be amazed. And he said imagination is not a tool to work from... asshole.
What im saying is.. witht he right resources you could go alot further than what gimp will allow. Look at flappy.. when he started he was just where you are.. i threw him a few tips.. colour schemes and links.. he went done most of the work but it takes the critism to keep going.
I will crit your designs now:
the blue grass/tube thing one.. very abstract design, dont quite get it though.. choice of colours no thanks.. btu good.
The cat one im amazed you even did.. i dont like the effect you have used however.. around the cats eye now looks pixelated.. which is sad. but i mean.. wow.. nice bump from blue grass.
Heres the categories you can choose:
Grunge: What i like about grunge is it can be as detailed or as simplistic as you like.. there are many different forms of grunge as well. For instance: Dirty grunge/Detailed grunge/abstract grunge/grunge
Tech: Tech style designs are my favourite but also the most time consuming, Head over to effectica.com where they have a shit ton of tools and tuts for your needs.. and alot fo friendly guys as well.
Abstract: Not quite a fan, some are really amazing to look at however, but i never really use abstract brushs that much.
Vector: Vector designs are radical ina design sence.. there very.. out of the ordinary and cool looking.. normally just circles and lines.. sometimes bubbles.. grunge can work really well with vector style designs if you good.
I hope i have helped a bit, if you want anymore help hit me up on
