Anyway a bloke has had what i think is teh red rings of death on his xbox 360...

Am I right in thinking its terminal? or is it fixable..

If less than 2 years of ownership its free and under warranty... Also, sometimes its fixable on your own! My friend just left his laying around after it broke and it fell from the table... it worked after that... lucky bastard

Didnt realise there was a fix, apparently she done a few now..

Dunno what it is she does, but she says 9 times out of 10 it works.. does involve cracking it open I know that!!

Its an overheating thing, mostly on older releases of the 360, its basically a problem with the heatsink(they used crummy/cheap stuff!). It overheats and the connections sever themselves...

Quick fix- overheat it by wrapping it in a towel for a few hours till they resolder.

Long term - Or manually refix them and put a better heatsink in

Ive done it to 5 or so now and it works

I do charge because you do well I have needed to use some extra parts to do it right.. plus there isa a risk and that it takes a good hour to do it..

I remove the heatsink all together use varnish remover to clear off the shitty thermal pad they use, clean the heat sink and then apply arctic cool past to the chip and re apply the heat sink, does require a screw kit though

then you fire up with no fan it should allow the paste to solder and then.. you need to venalate teh system

it should boot after that

You can get teh kits of ebay, we bought a load in at work.. since we get foreigners all the time..
