No I am not doing this to instigate trouble, Ill openly admit I wasn’t going to post this as I was slightly not much but slightly annoyed at some of the ignorance or rubbished I heard responded.

Thing is I think there are more serious problems at foot, more glitches are coming up but now it appears not only does Leopard not activate the firewall..

But there appears to be a Trojan horse now on the loose targeting OS X..

Again I want to stress this isn’t a bitch fest or aimed to flame trouble or am I attacking anyones baby or investment… I just think there is a potential serious threat on the lose. And given a lot of users of Macs ignore security then they sit vulnerable

http://www.tech.co.uk/computing/mac/new ... source=rss

relates to a various few other recent glitches found.

So if you haven’t updated, id wait until new year now… Its not worth it..

If you have id ensure your firewall is operating properly at least.

Aye, but you have to install the virus yourself. They say it comes from certain porn sites. So...dont go to porn sites and download something. Be smart

Here is 2 interesting quotes:

"I'm not trying to overhype. Mac users, hungry for porn, really do have to go through a few hoops to get this thing loaded. But we now have millions of new Mac devices out there, between the [iPod] touch and iPhone, running OS X." said Eckelberry.

And Mac owners aren't any different from people running Windows, said Zdrnja. Some will click and download and install until the cows come home. "Mac users should not think they are invulnerable just by using a Mac and that they can click on absolutely everything."

Thankx for the heads up Chan!

why have like 4 viruses have like popped out of the blue for mac in the past 7 months or so wen there were previously barely any? is this like die hard windows fans trying to rain on the leopard parade or have people just recently figured out how to make them for mac?

I know it is only on porn sites.. but it can easily be replicated so it might grow...

Reason i posted really is because well to get peoples awareness, given that alot of mac users feel invincible allowing admin rights when needed to catch out jo bloggs is all thats needed.

Prety much what you said :)

REPOSTED

I dont think the trojan horse is actually related to leopard.. it is just coicidence that leopard happens to have had a problem with the fireall at the same time..

It just so happens that it hasnt been a very clean release thats all, almost like beta...

wouldnt worry about it, im sure it will be patched up in some time..

writing a virus for a mac isnt a problem its more the execution.. it in general has a better structure in place for security which was taken from another 3rd party company so Apple used it.. WIndows XP when released wasnt designed for all the spy/ malware to come.. it wasnt aorund then so its structure isnt there since most accounts allow full control..

since then network security and vista 2003 server have adopted a more closed off system approach.. not perfect IMHO but a step in right direction
