Maia enters the Goron Mines with Link at her side. They havent even fought anything yet, and they're already dripping with sweat. The mines are located in the Death Mountain volcano, surging with magma. Link whipes his brow and continues forwards. Maia follows him, exploring around the mines until they finally come to the boss area. Link unlocks the door and they enter cautiously.
They find a giant creature chained to the wall. Its breathing sounds through the chamber, echoing off the rounded walls. Maia notices a small diamond that is placed on the thing's forehead. Something moves inside it.
"Link.." Maia whispers. "Is that an eye?"
Before he can answer, the creature awakens. It spots them and lets out a deafening roar. Maia covers her ears as the thing struggles to free itself from the chains. After a few pointless struggles, the monster lights itself aflame, a power that the black magic from the twilight zone gave it. The creature melts the iron and frees itself and begins to rampage twoards Maia and Link. Maia shouts to Link:
"Shoot its eye!" Link backs away and takes aim for the diamond. With pinpoint accuracy, Link is able to shoot it and stun the monster. Maia runs behind it, and pulling on one of the chains that are attached to its feet, Maia is able to trip it. Link begins to hack at the diamond with his sword, causing the creature to roar with each strike.
After repeating this process three times, the monster finally gives up and dies, falling to its knees. The creature explodes into the fused shadow fragments and combines to form another peice of Midna's helmet. She pops up from the shadows.
"Good job you two! You've earned a little peice of information," She pauses. "Zant. That is the name of the person that has caused all of this hardship, both in the Twilight Zone and here. He is a false ruler, and I plan to overthrow him with these fused shadows. As one, I can harness the power of my ancestors and over rule him. With any luck, me actually might be able to do it." She looks over at the creature. "You have both gotten stronger, and I am pleased to have you on my side. Now, I guess you want to get out of here, right?" She points a finger at the ground, and a portal appears before them. Just like at the forest temple, Maia and Link step on it and is warped back to Kakario village. Maia looks back up at the mountain.
"Seems like our journey has only just begun, Link."
He nods, but then smiles at her. "Then lets try our best."
Maia smiles back, and then hears a faint voice. It's the light spirit.
"Heroes, now go to the Lanayru Providence and free the last light spirit. Good luck." Maia and Link both turn to leave, only to be stopped by Colin, who is comming out of Renado's home. He calls out to them:
"Wait! Before you go....." Then he pauses and looks grim.
Link narrows his eyebrows. "Colin, whats wrong?"
Colin looks up at Link. "Ilia. She, she wasnt with us! The monsters must have taken her somewhere else!"
Link looks shocked, and Maia stands there, stunned. She can't believe that she forgot about her.
Maia looks at Link. "He is right you know, we need to save her..."
Link looks up at Maia. "Let's go."
They both set off for Lanayru Providence for the last and hardest to get, fused shadow peice. The situation of the missing Ilia also is pressing down on their shoulders, and then the rest of their mission, saving the Twilight Realm and Hyrule.
I don't think I can beat that
