Since returning to the game a couple of weeks ago, I’ve been playing regularly on the server. While KR1 is my favorite JKA server thus far, I do have one complaint: the fast grapple-speed.
I've several times been victim of people doing a forward red swing and grappling into me at lightning speed. I've found this virtually impossible to defend against without resorting to the same tactic. Slowing the grapple-speed would greatly reduce the effectiveness of this tactic and would probably disincentivize laming in general.
Before my many years absence from JKA, I used to play on a server with slow grappling-speed. People used the grapple hook frequently, but instead of projecting it off into the distance, they'd jump, hook onto the ground in front of them, pull, and disengage right before they hit the ground. They thus gave themselves a good speed-boost and often capitalized on it through strafe-jumping.
I suggest experimenting with a slower grapple hook speed.
