Hey artists sorry it took a while to get this up. Finally got there!

You guys have a very interesting role in this project. There aren't any fixed requirements for you yet, so if you're in the mood please experiment as much as you want.

I'm going to offer some guides to help you with direction.

The most important bits you're going to cook up are:
  1. Playing field background
  2. Special terrain tiles
  3. Character sprites and animations
  4. Webpage background
As we haven't settled on any constraints you should focus on the actual art, with it being flexible enough to scale later on when dimensions are determined.

Playing field background
Unsure if we are going to use a monolithic background, or individual tiled sprites.

Special terrain tiles
No requirements yet, just a heads up that they'll be in the game.

Character sprites and animations
We'll need male/female, along with their animations.
  • Movement
  • Attack
There will definitely be more down the track, but those listed above are definitely going into the game.

Webpage background
No requirements yet. Let your creative juices flow!!

A few questions,

Will this require me to animate? I have never attempted to do such a thing, but if it does not,

what kind of terrain are we looking for? is it up to us art ppl to make it? are we making a grass oriented world? and what's this about a webpage background? will this be a webgame?

Also, is this like going to be a 8-bit pixel game? or is it supposed to look photo-realistic? What kind of playermodels are we looking for? is it up to us? is it supposed to mimic JKA?

Is this a 3D game? do we have to make three dimensional concept art of each character and location?

I apologize for being dumb and sticky but I must know these things other wise I'll go into a panic and murder all people who have purple T-shirts.

Haha frog. See the link to Advance Wars in the Master Q&A. That's the sort of style we'll be going for.

The specifics will be determined later, but you can practice making sprites. Don't wait for instructions and just exercise your creativity. We may very well end up running with one of your concepts!

I hate to do another " WIP " or " hey is this good enough so I can do more? ", but how is this so far?

The top line is movement and the second line is action. I will add titles to it once or if it's finished.

That... is impressive! I wish we could use that, but after some thought I don't think we can. Not your fault Frog, my bad for not giving you enough direction to begin with.

Can you do me up some pixel art instead? I can't give you final dimensions yet, but let's start with 40x40px. The end product will need male/female sprites, and we'll aim to have several flavours of each (by race, skin colour). Hope that clears things up a bit, let me know if you are unsure of anything!

Additionally, what kind of maps are we talking about? what dimensions?

Soon as you can let me know if those pixel chars are acceptable i'll move onto more varieties.

Hey Frog sorry for taking so long to respond. Your sprites look good, it looks like we can use them as placeholders for now. I'll ask you to complete a set of animations each for the two Jedi sprites.

This is because I'm certain we'll get a better idea of what art style to go for once we pull an alpha build together, so no need to potentially waste your efforts.
