So, I am running JA++ on UU in Windows 8, but using Windows 7(Compatibility Mode), and running UU as administrator. What happens is that the moment I load this game, it gets to the loading screen, says "Failed to load dll, looking for qvm.", any reason why this is? I have been running the game this exact way for weeks and its been totally fine up until now. This is what it says:

I have tried running it in all other operating systems, made sure the task manager didn't have 2 JAmp programs working at once, and tried running my computer in safety mode. I have no idea what the problem is! I doubt it's my hardware, since I've been running this for weeks. If it helps, I use jaMP and not OpenJK to run the game.

I've gotten that last line - VM_Create on UI failed quite a bit. Running JKA as an admin usually solves it for me.

Hey Uscari, I checked a couple of posts with folks having similar issues, and they were all resolved in different ways.
While the old saying "it worked before, why isn't it working now" comes up -- we're gonna have to look past this for now.

Check the following:

- Windows Updates and make sure everything that isn't marked as "Optional", is updated and ran.
- Uninstall and reinstall your video card's drivers (ATI Catalyst or nVidia GeForce Experience). Make sure to do a clean uninstall and reinstall.
- Back-up your base and custom pk3 files and reinstall JKA. This will hopefully be a last resort, as its the most annoying.

Essentially something changed on your machine, or something is running in the background preventing you from launching, especially if this happens each time you try and run JKA and cannot.
The basics would be restarting the computer, which some people just neglect to do and choose to Log off or just suspend their Windows. (Start > Shut-down > Restart).

Hope this works. Feel free to attach a screenshot of the error you receive, incase more details can be found from it, and upload it to imgur.com

I just had this issue happen to me a few days ago, I made sure to set my jamp file japlus file and any other .exe extension of JKA to full control and run in admin mode, I then restarted my computer made sure that the admin symbol appeared on my .exe icon and ran the game.

*Make sure you restart after changing the settings to run in admin*

First off, thanks for helping!

Now I tried all the options you mentioned: I saw no new important windows updates; I reinstalled my Intel HD Graphics Driver, and saw that it was up to date; I reinstalled JKA; I made sure through my Task Manager that no second jaMP program was already being run, and of course I restarted my computer.

I'm not sure if this helps, but I can run base and regular JA+ from UU, but cannot load JA++ from UU. I'm certain that what you said about my device changing somehow is true, but I don't know what!

*UPDATE*

So I managed to reinstall JA+ and then do what was necessary to reinstall JA++ from it, because installing JA++ without JA+ just didn't work with me. I can tell that it is running JA++, because the menu has the text a little different, like in JA++, and I can now at least launch the game in JA++ through UU, but when I try to make to connect to a server, this is the message I get from boot log.

*FINAL UPDATE*

Woot! Good news! I was able to somehow solve this display issue through what ended up being some compatibility stuff!

Here is step by step what I did to fix this annoying "Failed to load dll, looking for qvm." problem!

1. Uninstalled JKA.(Make sure to save desired files/cfgs in a separate folder before doing this)

2. Deleted JKA Folder.

3. Reinstalled JKA.

4. Extracted JA+ 2.4 Files into the JKA Folder, in Gamedata.

5. Extracted JA++ files into the jka folder, in Gamedata(removing some JA+ files along the way, detailed in the JA++ Landingpad website!)

6. First ran JKA through UU without any mods, found that it was full screen. For some reason, the error from the OP would repeat itself if you tried to mess with graphics configuration in game. So I thought I might test how the game responds if it is in windowed mode.

7. Go to JKA->Gamedata->Base->jampconfig.cfg

8. This part is key, we have to right click the file and click on properties, where you can see how it is run. Before you can make any changes to the file, you have to make sure it is not read-only and that your account has permission to make changes.

9. After this, you can re-write the game to automatically go into windowed mode by just changing seta r_fullscreen "1" to seta r_fullscreen "0". This will make jaMP windowed every time you launch.

10. I noticed that even though it was technically windowed, activating the program changed the resolution of my whole monitor to like 640x480, so you have to adjust jaMP.exe itself in order to make the program compatible with your display settings.

You can do this by right clicking jaMP in JKA-->Gamedata-->jaMP.exe, and clicking "Properties". This is where you can run a compatibility troubleshooter or manually set options to run the game in Windows XP(Service Pack 3) and disable display scaling, and ofc run as admin all the time. So this should make the game run in windowed mode just fine without any OpenGl error or "Failed to find dll, looking for qvm" problem!

So in the end, it appears that reinstalling, and operating in windowed mode is another way to solve this particular error!

This is a very specific fix to what I presume was a display problem complicated by a corruption of files(?), and hopefully other, more tech-savvy friends like Dopie can help translate this into a more broad approach to solve display errors!

Yeah I'm not that good with tech stuff, so those online forums and tutorials meant everything to me!

Hopefully I can add this as one more resource for anybody experiencing this kind of problem. ^^
