So, as you guys know, I've been very enthusiastic about the game. To make this worth while, I'll try to keep my personal ego outta the way to be legitimate.
Just a day and a half ago I first played Battlefront.
Graphics
First and foremost, this is the most impressive game graphics I have ever seen in a game. Dice went to the scenes from the movies and filmed them to get a feel for how it's supposed to be, and what can I say? It's 100% perfect.
Sound
As above, this is one of the more recognizable advantages this game has to it's rivals. The sound is simply the movies' chassis, but is ramped up to feel like a explosion was actually a explosion. This also goes for all sounds, some to be mentioned as Han Solo's blaster, Darth Vader's saber, the Thermal Imploder, etc.
Gameplay
Possibly the most important aspect in any game is replayabillity and a unique take on game mechanics to provide interesting ways to play. However, this game is not extremely different from other games out there. The shooter aspect is, well, shooting. Lightsaber fights feel somewhat like two action figures being shoved together, but hold up at best, reasonably.
Apart from ground action, there's flying. Now, when I first got into the game's menu, one of the agendas I had, was to explore Fighter Squadron, as I am big on flying ships. It holds up rather well, nothing remarkable, and I had some issues with A-wings being near invincible and not getting counts for vaping NPCs. That being said, there's nothing wrong. The problem, like most of the gameplay, is that there's nothing new either.
Music
Though not as important to most, I find it to be essential in a immersive experience. Dice did a flawless job with duplicating the base music, but like the sound design, made it slightly better with some editing. I don't think they hired John Williams, but it was a impressive job, and I was surprised by this because I thought they wouldn't take that as seriously as other game necessities. However, as usual, Dice did a wonderful job with the things I expect wouldn't be paid attention to.
Voice Actors
The acting choices puzzled me, mainly on Luke. I've listened to Audio Books ( I.e Dark Forces ) where Luke was done at least fairly. However, he sounds like a brat who is too passionate about what he's doing. Whenever he swings the saber I hear him go '' UHHHH! '' Which makes it sounds like he's trying to go number 2 while solving a Rebux cube while also swinging a saber under 2 seconds.
The others are done pretty well, Han Solo I recognized from MANY games and audiobooks. He's not Harrison Ford but he does a fine job at imitating him enough that I don't pay much attention.
Vader was also brought from the Force Unleashed, and his voice is fine, but I kind of wished Dice had made his voice louder, because whenever he speaks, he sounds like his speakers are tuned down a bit.
Leia is done, actually in my opinion, the best. She sounds just like a Princess/warrior, who is fighting for goodness and innocent lives.
Emperor Palpatine, ironically voiced by Starkiller, is done rather well, though I can kind of tell that it's him and not Ien micdiremen.
Boba Fett is fittingly voiced by Temora Morrison, Jango Fett. That being said, flawless.
The others, such as Rebels and Imperials, are done fantastically as there really isn't a specific person they are trying to accurately imitate. The sound design makes their voices echo and bounce off of walls, making me believe they are Legitimately stressed or happy or whatever Dice is intending them to be.
Addressing Controversies
Lack of Single player
Yes, I was bummed out too. A game of this magnitude should address all parties of preferences, right? However Dice was not without reason. Previous games like Battlefield 4 and 3 didn't get much support for their single player. I wouldn't buy a Battlefield game for the Single player. I might pick it up and follow the lore okay, but that's not what it's meant for. Dice figured that since people were used to lack of interest, they wouldn't bother and just go on to what they think would be more exciting.
Bad? Sure. But at least they were trying :S
The lack of usable vehicles
To the point, Dice didn't want a rehash of Battlefield. I imagine they got messages blowing up their computers saying '' DON'T MAKE IT A RESKIN! ''. They wanted the game to be unique and not compared to the Battlefield series. Unfortunately, they went overboard with this and made power-ups and Arcade styled ways of getting more firepower, polar opposite from Battlefield. I too am a little irritated at this, but it doesn't damper my experience at least.
Is it bad? like before, yes, but Dice was at good heart while doing this.
DLC
Now, I know all about EA and how everyone hates them and such. You have plenty reason to, and I don't blame you. EA COULD be money begging scum who just want people's wallets and only a trinkle of game value, or they could be people just out of money and interest and needed to buy the attention of Star wars fans to get it back. Either way, yes, there is DLC's, but ONE THING, and I mean ONE THING they did right was making MOST of it free. Jakku is free, the DL-44 is free, as a matter of fact, I have ran into NO restrictions in the game. Due to updates, EA is getting their credibility back with me at least. More to mention, the Death Star, along with other maps ( not really interested in any others when I see the Death Star as a option tbh ), more guns, skins and emotes, all free. That's a definite plus.
Bad? It was before. No longer. Or at least, not with this game.
Verdict
Star wars Battlefront is a fantastic game. It's great Graphics and sound and music are done flawlessly, gameplay, though generic, is timeless. The sense of scale and immersion is like no other Star wars game I've seen, aside from Star wars: Galaxies. Like Battlefield 4,3, even Hardline, it starts out really bad. I played the beta, and yes, it was just a piece of garbage. But later, 4 and Hardline grew, maybe not as much with Hardline, but they've grown to be great by their own right. I see this in Battlefront, in it's updates, and it started out even BETTER then Battlefield did. Don't be harsh, just wait for the game to grow. It will, it will.
However, I do not sense incoming vehicles or any of that. My ultimate change is that it should not be called Star wars: Battlefront. It should instead be called Star wars: Battlegrounds.
