Here is an odd riddle for you:

You want to purchase a shirt that costs $97, you borrow $50 from both of your parents ($100 total). You buy the shirt and have $3 leftover, you give each of your parents $1 and keep the last dollar.

Now you owe your parents $49 each, for a total of $98, including the dollar you have the total that you owe and what you have is $99.

Where is the missing dollar?

Who wold pay $97 dollars for a shirt. Waste of money if you ask me...

Shirt was $97, so you owe them both $48.50.
$48.50 * 2 = $97, Then add the change and you get 100

but you borrowed $50, not $48.50. You pay back what you borrowed, not what the item costs.

What Fazz is saying is that you owe 48.50 for them buying the shirt for you. This equals 97 dollars. Since you borrowed 50, this leaves a buck fifty left over that you owe, so you pay back the dollar after. this equals 99. you pocketed the last 50 cents from each of them... making 100.

Shirt = 97 dollars.
Parents = 48.50 per person for the shirt.
You = Borrow 50 dollars per person. 1.50 over what you need.
Remaining = 1.50 for each person. 1.50 * 2 = 3

97+3=100.

As people have posted solutions I may as well.

You don't add the $1 to the 98 to make 99, you take it away to get to 97, being the price of the shirt. Then add to that the original change of 3 bring you back to 100.

you owe them $50. If i borrow a hundred bucks off you to buy a 10 dollar item cause all you happen to have is a hundred dollar bill, you wil get pissed really quickly when I pay you back $10, but that is correct by your logic above. I'm not disputing your answer, just your method

So if you owe your parents 49$ each how many pancakes will fit on the roof? Purple...because aliens don't wear hats. I solved my own riddle.
