Clan Map

Hello everyone!

As some of you know, me and ZibZab have been working on a new clan map. I'm in charge of architecture & design, he's in charge of scripting and the technical meat. The theme of the map, as of right now, is undisclosed. It's going to be a surprise - although some of you already know what it is. If you do know, please don't post it or start telling people!

The map was nearing completion until it was entirely lost during an attempted backup of my computer. My flashdrive decided it would be hilarious to RESTORE my computer rather than BACK-IT-UP.

Anyways, now that I have a second chance to make the map - we'll approach this another way. I'm going to list a few things that the map will include. Also, I'm going to ask a few questions - if you're going to answer the questions, please do so in an organized manner! Open discussion is highly recommended and welcome, as this map is for all of you.

CURRENTLY BUILT FEATURES:
1. Central spawning/ffa area.
2. Several themed dueling rooms.
3. Small lounge/cantina-thing.

PLANNED FEATURES:
1. Rank-based offices/lounges.
2. Battlefield for team-based activities.
3. Maze for recreation.
4. Announcements Hall.
5. Several training rooms.
6. Secret Map Locations.

WHAT WILL NOT BE FEATURED:
1. Armory (unnecessary)
2. Health Room (unnecessary)
3. Pool/Hot Tub/Sauna (unfitting)

Now that those things are out in the open, here are some questions for discussion:
1. Are there any features you'd like to see implemented?
2. What would you change, if anything?
3. Would you rather have 2 separate maps - 1 for clan events (like a battlefield / dueling rooms), and 1 for recreation & hanging out?

They're all important, and like I said, if you do choose to respond to one - please tell me which it is. And I think that's it! :D

no bedrooms? I think bedrooms would be really cool, as long as you didn't put too many so you kill yourself with tedium trying to make them all.

I think one map is definitely best, it would be a lot of hassle to switch between during a cn or whatever, so one map probably.

However, you could have two main sections, one recreation/lounges/offices/whatever and the other with the duel/training rooms/battlefields/etc.

The sections could be connected by doors, but on a large map I would like to see some sort of teleportation method that does not require admin, as many people don't bother on KR2, and it's rather tedious getting everyone in a certain spot for an event, because no one knows how to get there lol.

I have some other ideas, I may hit you up on skype. I look forward to seeing the finished product! :o

I disagree with having it "undisclosed" if it is a clan map.
How big will the doors be? ("realistic" or bigger than normal?)
Will you use custom made textures?
Have you drawn a layout how you want the map to be made? (top view with notes)
Do you want to add custom made models? (Chairs, props, etc.)
Will it be indoor or an outdoor? Perhaps a little of both?

I assume this will be done in GTK Radiant. Which version do you use?

If possible a place for ship flying/ship battles to take would be a nice addition if its not to big of a bother and to off course of your general plan.

P.S. Jam loves all secrets big and small so the more the merrier but that is just my personal preference. Keep up the good work sir and if you ever get stuck on how to perfect the design of any room in the map feel free to send me a screenie and I could give any advice/suggestions if you ever need a fresh look on the design. :D

@Aki, it's undisclosed because it's going to be a surprise. I'm currently the one making it, I have the final say in what happens to it and how it is presented to all of you. The doors will be of "realistic" sizes of course, yes - some custom textures will be used, no - a drawn layout of the map is not necessary as of right now, all models are being taken care of, and you'll see. And for your final question, I don't know what version of GTK Radiant I'm using right now - I'm responding to this post via my gaming computer, not my laptop which has everything on it.

@Jam/Mand, while this idea is quite feasible, and entirely practical (in the chosen theme of the map), there will be no opened-up flying areas. I'm trying to make the map FPS-efficient for as many people as possible. If it will make you feel better I can add a hanger somewhere :) There simply will be not enough time and space (this is a pun, and as I'm hinting, you'll see why later :3).

-- UPDATE -- I think I may be including some screenshots soon. They won't be very revealing, but I know some of you are dying to see it. :)

Fair enough being FPS-efficient is a worth while reason to exclude a flying area. (not that FPS matters when Your system has been Jammed  )

also there isn't going to be a room filled with locked doors that need you to find keys to open as a cruel allusion to the maps maker is there? (Mostly joking here)

lol. somehow make it to where only Key can open it, so it will say Key required. Everyone will look around for the key, but really you need Key the person...

That won't work because there's a pit behind it, and there's a rancor at the very bottom of that pit! >:E3

@Zab, I recovered a very primitive version of the map - forgot to tell you, lulz.

@Everyone else, there will be secrets only Zab/Key know of for awhile :3 until y'all find them that is... and I know how to hide things very well. :3 :3 :3

And I dare suspect the person who uploads the map to the server and has a passing knowledge of how stuff works could find them too.

Update!

Well, I've been complaining about GTK Radiant a lot on the server - and I think a few of you are aware, but I'm back in business for this project (I haven't forgotten about it). I was having horrible problems with the compiler for the .bsp's, I think it was some sort of installation error. Anyways... originally I was going to sneak in some screenshots via the custom skins' player icons that I was making, but it wasn't very revealing / noticeable... so here y'all go. This is all you get for now... and I think if you realize what you're looking at, you can understand the general theme of the map. Now keep in mind, this is like the raw meat of the map... little detail has been implemented.

These pictures are totally out of context / dark (because of the JPEG formatting)... but I'll let you guys speculate. What good is a surprise without a little mystery to nibble on?
