So yea, I got an smartphone that runs the Android operation system (its pretty sweet!). So as I'm a programmer I was just wondering who else runs Android and if so what applications could I develop for it?

/amslap for the person who says JKA >.<

So anyway, I thought I'd start with a game.

There's a game an old school friend of mine taught me (well, his dad - who was the headmaster of the school - which isn't so great when you set his son on fire, but that's another story) that you play on paper.

You draw dots arranged thusly: -
.
. .
. . .
. . .
. . .
And from them you can mark off 1 to 3 dots, but only in one column, and only if they are consecutive. The goal is to make the other person take the last dot. The game is called Dots and Dashes. I've already written it for Windows. http://www.egonomics.com/android/dots.exe
I also developed it for the Nokia T310 on the Mophun platform, which is now extinct.
Here's some screenies of it :P : -

Obviously the Android version will look different, haven't even designed it yet >.<

I've done enough work on this to release an Alpha version - this is not a release for the general public.
Here's my to-do list and I've done up to point 8: -

**1. just the paper backdrop
**2. dots on paper
**3. some crossed out
**4. ability to toggle the crossed out dots, touch screen
**5. make keys works
**6. correct the checked selection by deselecting those breaking the rules
**7. a confirm button - that works, i.e. unable to select dots that have been confirmed
**8. make this now 2 player, color code moves or w.e - checking for a winner
9. insert brains
10. a driving front screen, 1 or 2 player, and exit
11. extend front screen for other options: eg. sounds, vibrate
12. a dot layout selection screen
13. google advertising etc, versions for update, look at public release

So this release is for two players only and the next update (point 9 complete) will be one player only, you versus the phone once I give it the brains to play - and I'll update as I complete each point.

This is how it's looking so far: -

/amgiveAndroid Exceed

So yea, news!!!
My development cycle is now up to here: -

**1. just the paper backdrop
**2. dots on paper
**3. some crossed out
**4. ability to toggle the crossed out dots, touch screen
**5. make keys works
**6. correct the checked selection by deselecting those breaking the rules
**7. a confirm button - that works, i.e. unable to select dots that have been confirmed
**8. make this now 2 player, color code moves or w.e - checking for a winner
**9. insert brains
**9a. put google ads in next, get used to the new layout size
**10. a driving front screen, 1 or 2 player, and exit
11. extend front screen for other options: -
sounds, vibrate, difficulty level, speed, scores & reset, instructions, about
12. a dot layout selection screen
13. versions control for update, look at public release

I shifted up putting the ads in as I've noticed people having problems with putting them in their applications and they affect the screen layout - so I wanted to solve that before I had to redesign all my screens at the end.

If you have an android phone please get this, its nice and it loves you. Also, can people test the ads for me, they are causing a real pain - and *please* let me know if they aren't loading or refreshing (also it costs you nothing and it sends 2 cents my way!!!!).

The driving screen looks like this (I'll be putting options next as it still plays hardest level of difficulty): -

Note: if you already installed it from the previous time, please uninstall that first as the program's identification has changed and won't recognise the previous version to upgrade/overwrite it.

directly off your monitor.

And yet another upgrade :D

I'm up to here, point 12 : -

**1. just the paper backdrop
**2. dots on paper
**3. some crossed out
**4. ability to toggle the crossed out dots, touch screen
**5. make keys works
**6. correct the checked selection by deselecting those breaking the rules
**7. a confirm button - that works, i.e. unable to select dots that have been confirmed
**8. make this now 2 player, color code moves or w.e - checking for a winner
**9. insert brains
**9a. put google ads in next, get used to the new layout size
**10. a driving front screen, 1 or 2 player, and exit
**11. extend front screen for other options: -
. . . . *sounds, *vibrate, *difficulty level, *speed, *scores & reset
12. instructions, about, a dot layout selection screen
13. versions control for update, look at public release

Which means there is now an options screen!
Latest improvements are, well, the picture shows them all: -
Image
(note the colors are different on the actual phone than in the emulator)

I'm nearly done, and so far I've spend about 160 or so hours in development (that's a month working full-time) and made 4 cents so far *woot*. That's an hourly rate of a tenth of a quarter of a cent; and thanks to Falcon for my 4 cents <3

I've also put an auto-upgrade feature in, although its not in the Android market yet I can automate upgrade, which is just awesome!!

See the previous post on getting the latest version.

So, its all done - ready for public release, I just need to write it up and get an account with Android Market etc. Here's the screenies of the completed application: -

I've also activated the auto-upgrade feature. If you have an Android, make it even more sexier with this!! :P (Oh, and there is an easter egg hidden in the game too!!)

See the previous posts on getting and installing this. I think I've nearly hit the 200 hours on development mark!

Successfully placed in the Android market (cost $25 so now I'm $24.96 in the red LOL).
