Hey all, I'm working on a project related to Online gaming addiction and i was woundering about your opinions on the matter? For me gaming addiction is in all sense an addiction, speaking from personal experience in the matter i was addicted to the game " World of Warcraft" Even though the idea of " Online Addiction" is highly debated, in my own opinion i would classify some games as a " Drug" you play a demo or such you like it you play a bit more you get hooked before you know it your paying for it and your playing it every hour of the day every day every week and so on, O Yes i was a Wow addict, Anyway back on point i do not believe the term " Online drug" which i've put world of warcraft into the catagory of should be used lightly but as far as my own personal experience with it goes : Was 12 got a new game for X mas did the demo, Got hooked and was playing it every day so on.
When i was addicted to world of warcraft i struggled to leave the game even though i wanted to, let's say a scenario : i Exit the game try to go do something else and within ten minutes im back on Wow ( world of warcraft)
Infact it took me 3 hard try's to leave world of warcraft the first period being 2 weeks the next 1 month and the third i had to tell my mother ( Who is a substance misuse nurse ironically) to cancel the subscription and never allow me to re subscribe, This was the most recent infact i only quit world of warcraft 3 months ago today and it really does still have a dragging effect on me, But this is just me.
I'm not entirely sure how games that are in my words " Online Drugs" affect different people im sure that some would be able to just give up but i ask you as responsible adults... And aj ( Just kidding mate i love you really

) Should a game which is possibly a drug be freely advertised to the public and to our children? Whats your opinion on online addiction? or gaming for that matter.
( Think i forgot to add this in but when i and other relatives e.g my cousins quit this game a type of withdrawal was suffered, Also i really don't mean to offend anyone i just find the subject rather interesting, But seriously we all know i lack a sense of Right n wrong sometimes - so please forgive and correct me of any offense granted : ) Thanks)

Until JKA, I actually never played online games. I was and still pretty much am a hardcore console gamer. Even concerning console games, I rarely to never played with other people unless they were seated right next to me, no XBox live or PS3 equivalent.
I think some people just have certain needs and hence become addicted to certain things; some people chose narcotics, others shopping, and some gaming. I think online gaming is particularly addictive due to the community-based feel, that you are part of a group that has no meeting times, but is online 24/7, so you feel obligated to be on as much as possible. Most console games, while they have online features, are short and episodic, not creating a community feel so much as a paid group of mercenaries hired for a one-time gig.

im addicted to mw2

but in all sense its not online gaming people are always addcited to when i was about 8 or 9 i stayed up all night everynight till i went to school beating my snes and sega genesis games such as aladdin and super mario bros. etc etc etc online gaming is not so much addictive but it makes you feel like you have more friends, until i go to work i sit at home all day by myself or accompanied by hatchet who is sibling not so much friend :p but when i play online i have conversations with people argue with people and help people. im not meaning this in offense or anything but most ''online" addicts just play alot to talk with ppl especially if they sit around all day

Addiction... I've been through many forms of games addiction, though there's a solid reason for it.
No idea if it helps you, but people who are rejected by society of their age around them tend to do things that can comfort them, because otherwise they suffer loneliness. A kid that wants to have fun, but doesn't know how, does what good comes first > Games. Playing online games where you can chat with others can addict a lot, especially when all good people I know are people on internet, no such in real life ( Just a note, I'm not a PC addict or game addict anymore, quit two years ago when I started secondary school ).
Thanks to that chat, the kid finds a substitution for the lack of communication, that though then does dramatic catastrophe in real life > The kid talks like in that game, the ability to talk well about themes of 'real life' decreases a lot, they become pale, red eyes.. You get the picture ^^ This all grows into a 'stasis', where the only thing that can bring fun and fight the loneliness are online games, everything else seems boring, less important.
As about getting rid of the addiction to online games... Well, my guess would be good friends ( at least two, one doesn't help much ) that would get the kid out of the house and do a lot of stuff. All I know is that it needs SOMETHING something that would make the kid have more fun than in online games.
In my case it started with guitar, I couldn't forget the feelings it gives so I payed more attention to it with time ( thanks to my poland friend who always talked to me about music & guitar and eventually we made a duo ). I got to know two friends who used to play WoW, but broke free from being addicted to it and they always want us all 3 meet in real life for a whole day. The barrier about fun was broken two years ago and I can't believe I was so long in the addicted state.
Just a side note, addiction breaks real life and health, leading to really bad endings if it's not dealt with. So guys, if you're addicted to something from games, think about your own life a bit and your parents, who spent so much time rising you, no matter how the tough days were ( In my case, as all of you know, my father is a person that can break things, punch and yell with the worst words at me when I do something wrong. But then again, thanks to him I've got steel nerves and that's useful ).
Grab your legs and lets enjoy the real life =) After all, it's so much more interesting and important than the cyber world.
(I've got the feeling I went off-topic, so if I really did, forgive me ^^ I've just woke up and turned on PC to check something important before I leave for most of the day)

My "addiction" only usually last 1-3 months. Otherwise I would be bored to death.
I try my best to become addicted but... I cannot. #ยค*
If any addiction, it would be JKA... I can't just "uninstall" it, must have it! Precious...
