Hmmm, seems sort of limiting, and I don't listen to a lot of metal, but here's my entry:

Song (Album - Track): Once - Ghost Love Score
YouTube Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0VF0BlXP-0Y

Whenever I listen to it, I feel like something epic is just about to happen. It makes long rides in school elevators much more exciting. :P

imo 80% of the music is the lyrics.
Bad lyrics (unable to understand what they/him/her are saying)
Excellent lyrics (understanding it, feeling it, and feeling good about it.)

Example: The reason I LOVE "Alestorm - Captain Morgan's Revenge", is because of its great lyric; also giving me goosebumps.

All other "music" is so neutral/common - non-unique... Which is why lyrics, stories is important part of music. Not just the sounds our ears can perceive, but the feeling behind it. Of course there is GREAT music without lyrics as well... Just my opinion~ lol

Personally I prefer metal that is raw and real, both musically and lyrically. The kind that sends shivers down your spine from the pain, aggression, and emotion felt behind every note and word. Never did relate to songs about mystical warriors going into epic battles. I mean, it might have been OK when I was smiting dragons and crusading with the Knights Templar’s in the 11th century, but in today's modern age, that s*** just don’t fly with me.
