Meh, leave him dead. It'll be like Cowboy Bebop. I didn't want him to die, but it's better that way -- a good ending.

maybe though, from a stories point of view it would make him more of a hero to die in sacrifice like a jedi...
and remember a jedi can come back and communicate through the force
