Passive in that it is security provided but without actual software running

I use 2 different methods, both are protection from drive-by downloads, malicious web-pages and phishing

They will also make your Internet surfing faster, and will block most ad sites


Firstly, use http://www.opendns.com and use the configure through the router if possible

Also, your HOSTS file, usually located in "C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\"

Want to be very careful before stuffing your hosts file up with false entries..


A lot of people quote it in good principle as it is.. but if you do a lot soon er or later you will realise your internet performance will be degraded.. you want to fill it up with as many entries but in reality often its not enough and you risk screwing up your network performance.
