I am looking for ...codes to add a .pdf document in my web-site. However I do not want to give the option to download the .pdf document, only view and browse it.

Something like this, except without the downloading option:

Theres not really anyway around it. At least not using Adobe Acrobat to display it. Reason being that when a PDF is displayed in a webpage, it still retails the title bar which gives the user the option to save the PDF. Even if the title bar wasn't there, you'd still be able to use shortcut keys to save (Ctrl + S) or alternatively copy and paste the content from the page.

If you can let me know exactly what your trying to achieve, it might put me in a better position to help you. But to be honest if your trying to host content on a website with the intention of people not being able to copy it in any way, then your asking for an impossible solution. Things can be done to heavily prevent copying, but there is always a means and a way to copy the data.

Im trying to display information that is already in a pdf file on my web-site without letting other people copy it easily.

As I mentioned above, there is no fool proof way of preventing people from copying if they want too.

When creating a PDF file, you have the option to set secruity options on them. As shown in the screenshot below:



As far as i'm aware, you will need the full version of Adobe Acrobat, not just the standard free one. Obviously there are other programs capable of doing the same thing, I just don't have the time to research them. The professional version of Acrobat Reader is expensive, so unless you are able to obtain a copy then this may not be a viable solution.

Another potential solution, depending on how many pages the PDF is, is to save each page as an image. This is probably the easiest and most effective way of doing it. Although this still isn't fool proof as you'd only need to save the image and run some OCR software over it. Then you've virtually achieved the same as if you were to copy and paste. You would need some technical knowledge in order to do this, so for the most part it will prevent 99% of users from copying your data.

Well, simply but i just want a PDF file displayed inside a page (html) without having a big "DOWNLOAD THIS FILE" link or option... sure, if they bother to find the exact url for the .pdf, they can have it. It's not like everyone that clicks on it is gonna know where to look.

That looks like a flash embedded into the page, depends what your coding in but I would suggest looking through the source code and testing and pinching it. That is what I have done for some things in the past when I needed them.. BUT it depends on what your coding in.

On that Page I am not sure even if that's a PDF at face value

If your working with a pdf though as Andy says.. It is sticky because theres a will and a way around these things

I simply do not want people to see a big "www.linktodownload.com/FILE.pdf"

or "DOWNLOAD THIS FILE" links anywhere!... Sure if you bother guessin the URL or looking trough the source code and find it, i wouldnt care. If someone bothers to do that, they get it as a reward. -.-

if an i-frame won't work, get down and be basic, take screenshots of your .pdf and put it together in a scrollable area, nobody will know the difference except you, and no nasty links needed, just make sure your image files are a good size
