Green Day were not punk, they were a sorry excuse for a band.

No offence to anyone here but I personally think Green Day sound better, whatever genre of music they are/pretend to be. At the end of the day music is music, if you like it you listen to it, who cares what genre it is.

It might be the fact that I can't understand what their saying, but I do prefer bands that actually sing down the mic, rather then talk. Also Green Day never regarded themselves as punk, it was either "Pop Punk" or "Rock".

=P listen to their old stuff pho, and then compare and contrast it to their music now.

I quite liked that, Andy dont forget that it is partially because they are speaking a different language that makes it sound more like they are talking than singing, although personally it sounded like singing to me.

Greenday's older stuff was better but they are good anyway (although nowhere near my favourite.)

I think you missed the point of my post. I just hate it when I hear the word "wannabe"- I mean here's Green Day who have sold millions of records worldwide and have made a fortune, then theres this apparent "real punk" band that i've never even heard of.

I mean as I said before at the end of the day, music is music, in my opinion if I like a track i'll download it and listen to it. The genre of the music is completely irrelevant- it's purely personal taste.

Well idk where did you hear Green Day didn't consider themselves as in Punk genre but thats cool, its your opinion ;). And to be honest, =p I can't seem to understand why in Europe like Germany, Poland, France, english music sounds like singing but when it comes to people's reviews like from United States or England, our singing doesn't actually sound like we're singing but talking :/. I don't know, Im not trying to offend anyone by this but I'm just curious why is that.

Why are you generalising my post? I never said "all bands from western europe sound like their talking not singing".

You posted a link to a video of an apparent "real punk" band and also accused Green Day of being a "wannabe punk band".

I gave you my opinion on it- I didn't say they sounded crap or anything like that, but as you mentioned Green Day (a band i've actually heard of) i've said that I think Green Day sound better- which again is my opinion.

The purpose of my original post was to firstly to defend Green Day (because they aren't a bad band and I used to listen to them quite a bit a couple of years ago). Secondly, to point out that the genre of music is completely irrelevant when deciding when you like or dislike a band- it's down to personal taste. For example, I wouldn't exactly call GreenDay's song "Good Riddance" punk or rock.

Pho~

:P I don't accuse anyone I just let out my own opinion also about Greenday of wannabepunk. I just wanted to share vid of band that I personally admire, and that thread was much about it, I don't look forward to have fights about whats punk rock or whats not. Just said my opinion and if somehow you felt offended by it Im sorry.
Edit: Also I don't mind people listening to greenday, you're right, it depends on someones taste on music. I just shared vid of my fav band and thats it, also gave my opinion on greenday which I meant no offense by.

I wasn't offended by your opinion at all, I just hate it when people use the word "wannabe". In my opinion a band is either punk or it's not. I'd love to hear the definition of "wannabe punk".

Wannabe punk: When a band isn't real punk just because I don't like it...?

I believe 'wannabe punk'' would be that someone is trying to cover himself or band as punk genre. But as i said, I only liked Greenday's old stuff, then they changed themselves in my opinion to worse. Hey its just an opinion so yea. However though by American Idiot I just lost taste in their music, and when I heard they called Green Day a punk band I just thought it was something opposite once I compared them to some punk bands such as Sex Pistols, The Clash etc.

Seems alright to me.. not quite my sort of music but if it was I think they are alright!

Dunno how you'd call Green day a wannabe.. They are what they are, and by their results you can hardly call them a wannabe anything.

With their success, if they wanted to be something, they have done it!
