Hey guys, i've found away for those of you with not so good memorys to remember the KR server IP's. The following have been set up for your convenience.

KR1 is accessible from the address:
KR2 is accessible from the address:
-----

This means in-game you can do:
and it will take you to KR1 and the same for KR2. If for example you go around a friends house and you want to go on the KR server then it saves you having to remember the IP. It also means if the server IP's ever change I will change these records so they will always connect to the right servers.

It means what it says. If you put in the console "/connect kr1.knights-reborn.org" it will take you to KR1. I can't make it any clearer then I already have.

this is really convenient cause sometimes our other server doesnt show up on my fav's.. so now i can jsut connect on to it

ok, quick question: how do we aply the server pass for KR2 using this method, i tried to connect and it wouldnt let me, the message said incorrect pass

i didnt even enter a pass :/

KR2 has a password on it. You'd have to add it in favourites and then double click and enter the password. I'm sure there is a way of doing it through the console I just can't remember of the top of my head.

I've been wondering; how do you add your own domain to the IP?

Let's say i get a server: I got my own domain akimotokun.net, how can i get "svr1.akimotokun.net"?

something to do with registering your host name or fully qualified domain name in dns.. how ud do that i dunno maybe with yoru host.. but the . signifies a child domain name

a simple name resolved to ip i think is a siomple A record.

All you do is make a subdomain, and then redirect the subdomain towards the ip of the server.

The principle is right, but it's a little more complicated then that- I don't even fully understand how it's done. By default sub-domains set-up as redirects would redirect too http:// xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx Which obviously wouldn't get you anywhere. "A records" are done at server level and aren't web-based whereas a normal sub-domain is.

In answer to your question Aki, even though Mel has already said the answer- contact your host. Not all hosts permit it, but its worth a shot- it worked out for me

Its actually a child domain or a dns zone

I mean
. is a root
.org is a high level domain


internet DNS servers update i think can take 1-3 days around the world

then the local host of teh domain whether you host it yourself etc can hold domain DNS with access to zone scope info

A record is basically a simple record so that your PC recognises (from its DNS server in this case the DNS server of your ISP) which Ip address to go to

for example

www.knights-reborn.org will be registered under 66.7.192.227 (i think)

the same now applied to yoru server

ultimateley the reason is that computers recognise ip addresses only (well in binary format ultimateley but) they use ip adddresses to connect to each other..

DNS allows us to communicate and connect to devices hosts using HUMAN like references

I know what DNS is, thanks to some DEFCON talks, but I didn't know what a record was, thanks for clearing that up.

A record is the simplest thing to know about DNS :s

A records aren't web based (and by that I mean through websites). If your talking about simple web-page redirection then there are plently of scripts out there available for you to use. "A records" are server based and can only be created by the server administrator- there is no way around it.

Lets take the first one I had setup. "kr1.knights-reborn.org": When you launch JKA and type /connect, JKA doesn't read a web-site at all. It doesn't even come into it. What happens is that it makes a connection and the server the A record is set up on, returns the real IP address of the server.
