I'd try opening your case and cleaning the dust out of it with a can of compressed air. Pay particular attention to the fans and the fan over your processor.
IMO, sounds like it's overheating.

Fazz what Seive means is you need to take the side of your computer off, just unscrew the screws on it, get hold of a can of compressed air, you can buy them specially for cleaning comps at PCWorld for example, just spray all of the dust out of there and clean it up a bit but
be very careful not to damage any of the motherboards or circuit boards etc etc, so dont blow the dust off with your mouth and dont try using a duster, you just need to spray it with very clean air (Y)
Ask me on msn if you are unsure
(Also dont have the comp on when you do it XD)

ya sounds like an over heating problem, like they said, clean it out and avoid over use, as it could damage it more. if its a valuable comp, invest in an advanced cooling method.

firstly I would obtain the temps just after a crash has occurred..
you can getthis from the BIOS.
You ideally do not want to leave this if it is a temp issue as your guilty componant may overheat and shutdown for the last time

To be honest it seems odd that it would be a temperature problem unless the fan isn't working at all. If Fazz is starting the computer up and its been off for a significant amount of time then it usually takes a while to overheat even if alot of dust is present.

thats why i suggested he got the figures first.. if they did not appear threatening it coudl be ruled out..
temperature was a massive regular problem on systems a few years old since they have been alot hotter (seems better these days)
Temp rising can be caused from the gpu and can cause the main system temp as opposed to the CPU to overheat..
now an instability as he is reporting could be caused by high temp damage whether cold booting or not.

the fan is workin, but it is like my car analogy, lol, it seems 2 get 2 fast (over rev) then just cuts out
also, when it starts it says 'CMOS setting wrong' that mean anythin 2 any1?

Is your PC overclocked by any chance?
PC overheating doesnt mean teh fan isnt working... in fact if the fan wasnt working it would probably just fry. overheating just means its not doing enough or theres too much hot air and not enough exhaust.
CMOS could be battery is going .. might not be.. go in BIOS and save the settings... although it could be its reset and somehow your CPU is overclocked
Id look at the hardware options first then given your last post..
Thereafter software, and things might be a bit clearer there on in... for that id disable as many things on startup as poss save AV and firewall (which ones you using incidentally?), check drivers... and also look at real low level full scans etc... although it could be just a windows file has became damaged... but we can drill down into that later if need be.

well you got your professional opinion lol!!
truth is , you might need someone who is a bit more handy with PCs to look at it thank you, whether they can fix it themselves ort look into what she said..
dopesnt have to be a pro, but anyone who is reasonably handy with a PC should be able to follow that..

i would have assummed the freezing on startup to be the mass of programs trying to get there bit out of the CPU before it decides to kick the bucket, so MSCONFIG would be my first thing to do.
Chan and mel are right though. they will be able to list more plausable problems with your machine than i would. but start it up for us and go to start button/ run. Type in msconfig. from there go to services and you should see a box above (to the left abit) ok button where it says:
Hide all microsoft services. tick this. and then start unticking all the services..that you recognize! do not touch the antivirus and firewall servcies.
Now move on to the startup tab. and do the same there. your anti virus and firewall should be the only one's left on. but if you use a crap isp that requires you to dial out for a connection then make sure that service is also ticked. and hit apply.. restart.. then wait.. if ti freezes up or restarts.. its a temp issue.
Safemode though may be able to work round it if you cant get to your desktop to do the msconfig.
on bootup hit f5/f8, once you have youw ill get a menu with a list of options. use your arrow keys to go up to safemode and hit enter on the keyboard. and then you get a selection of which OS (you should only have 1) hit enter again. and it will bootup. login to your account.. an option will pop up asking do you want to continue in safemode hit yes. and then do what i said above. if it works great

let us no.

DO you mean services or programs?? Because you have to be very careful with services
I seen someon on this forum suggest that once, to go around disable DHCP and DNS client, I was like woah woah woah!!
Best way to tell about the temp is to either enter bios at start or try downloading SISandra something like that
http://www.sisoftware.co.uk/index.html? ... angx=en&a=
lite download should be more than sufficient

Try taking it to PCWorld?
Or if you dont want to fork out the money for that, do what I do, go in and just inquire about it, the tech guys are usually very helpful.

PC world tech guys are useless and know nothing...
