Anyone-using Internet mail such as Yahoo, Hotmail, AOL and so on.
This information arrived this morning, Direct from both Microsoft and Norton.
Please send it to everybody you know who has access to the Internet.
You may receive an apparently harmless e-mail with a Power Point
presentation ' Life is Beautiful '
If you receive it DO NOT OPEN THE FILE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES,
and delete it immediately.
If you open this file, a message will appear on your screen saying:
'It is too late now, your life is no longer beautiful.'
Subsequently you will LOSE EVERYTHING IN YOUR PC, and the person who sent it to you will gain access to your name, e-mail and password.
This is a new virus which started to circulate on Saturday afternoon.
AOL has already confirmed the severity, and the anti virus software's are not capable of destroying it.
The virus has been created by a hacker who calls himself 'life owner.'
PLEASE SEND A COPY OF THIS E-MAIL TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS, and ask them to PASS IT ON IMMEDIATELY!
just thought would pass this on here just incase

So if we get an email with that attachment then we can delete it without it having done any harm?
Though I'd still be scanning afterwards if I did get it!

This is another hoax thats going around - this isn't actually a real virus. Although Star does have good intentions. Even though this case happened to be fake it doesn't mean that this kind of thing can't actually happen for real.
Lesson to be learnt out of this: Don't ever open emails (especially ones with file attachments) from people you don't know. Avoid doing that and your pretty much safe.

I will open every E-mail I get, considering I can't get viruses.
Thank you Star, nonethless.

I love how all the Mac users just sit back all smug. The fact is, it is possible for Mac's to get viruses- one was discovered in 2006.
http://www.sophos.com/pressoffice/news/ ... xleap.html
The reason why people say it is impossible for Mac's to get viruses is because yes, it is very very difficult to create a Mac virus because of the way the OS is coded- but that does not mean your safe. Also virus authors don't really want to spend alot of time trying to code a Mac virus because why would they? Its easier to create a Windows virus and the impact would be far greater.
Personally I don't have anything against Macs, from my experience they have been great- always done what I wanted them too. BUT if I were to actually to own a Mac I wouldn't be so naive to think that i'm safe from Viruses. The one day that a high severity Mac virus is discovered god help us, the cautiousness that experienced Windows users use when opening emails wouldn't be there, therefore your a sitting duck as so to speak.

90% of these virus warnings are rubbish.
In fact I generally think that virus attacks are normally low these days..
I think security is much better these days.. Hopefully Vista will push that envelope.. They have made a good leap.. not quite enough in my opinion...
I think MS have missed an opportunity with Vista to change its entire security infastructure but it has taken it a steup forward.
The main people affected by nasties now are people who are generally not very computer literate.

By all means take your chances, but just don't come running when that comment bites you in the ass. Choosing to ignore fact is ignorance.
Quoted from the link I provided: "Mac users shouldn't think it's okay to lie back and not worry about viruses."

Its a fake, you need not worry about it.

Although arrogant at sometimes, I have some brains in this meat-sack that I call a body.
My Mac is probably more protected than Bill Gate's PC. LOL! Not really, but it's pretty dang safe. My 'comment' (
I'll take my chances.
) was for me and me alone. I'm not saying that others shouldn't have to worry, nor was ever trying. I'm sorry if you got that vibe off of me.
If you want to 'inform' me some more, though, I'm free for the rest of the evening.

I knew what you ment and I knew you were refering to yourself. Note the use of "you" in the quote below.

My post was mearly to make you aware of the facts. Using a little bit of cautiousness doesn't go amiss and it will save you alot of trouble in the long run. It just annoys me when I see comments like "I can't get viruses" and "I'll take my chances" because for one, it shows your naivety and secondly it's people with these sorts of attitudes that virus authors target.
