I tried to join the server for the first time in a few months and got auto-banned. :c

Months ago I tried to use a VPN to lower my ping (which didn't let me join) as I'm in New Zealand so I think it has something to do with that. Not using a VPN now and my home IP is flagged for some reason.

Nah its not that. Your ISP changed your IP and you inherited one which was blacklisted. Meaning the previous user of it was a brainless script kiddie who used his own IP (now yours) to commit crimes. You may find yourself unable to connect to other sites too. You could try Googl'ing your new IP and see on how many scam-aware sites it turns up on. For instance you'll see it listed on http://www.whatismyipaddress.com as a Datacenter.
