Hi all. I posted this here because for some reason I have never been able to click NEW TOPIC under NEWS. There never has been anything for me to click on there. Idk why.

Anyway I wanted to let you all know how things are with me. I am now officially RETIRED from work. I already got my first SSI direct deposited in my bank. I plan to use some of it to purchase a new computer with better power and a disc drive which this one doesn't have. And if it works well and I'm sure it will, I will purchase disc copies of JO and JA again. I miss you all and those 2 games. Steam just doesn't work well for me anymore. It seems to have the same problems with this computer as with the last one. Thats why I haven't been able to be on JA for sometime now.

As for me? I am fine. no coronavirus. And I can now enjoy my life MY way with no interference from work. And NO I do not get bored. When not getting my regular sleep, I keep busy doing something.

I miss JA and KR immensely. I will let you know when I plan to return. for sure.

I think as I recall the clan rules that although I have been inactive, that my return to KR will depend on a Council vote. I think thats right. Correct me if I'm wrong. Its been awhile. lol. Or maybe it just pertains to those who quit then choose to return. I never quit. I just faded away I guess.

A friend and his wife say I should get a new unit with Google Chrome. They say I won't need any version of Windows and everything I do and games I play will still work with it. And I won't have those constant annoying Microsoft Updates anymore. They say Chrome doesn't use them. Let me know what you all think on this.

I'm not too sure what that advice is in reference to - Chrome itself if just a program you run on a computer, a web browser, not actual hardware.

So I think they are pushing you in the direction of a ChromeBook. That is a half-way blend between an Android tablet and a Laptop. The problem is that it won't run JKA, for nothing else. I also have to state that as an Android developer I suggest you keep well clear of ChromeBooks - from my feel in the industry they will get phased out. Google have an annoying habit of just stopping support of whatever tech isn't working for them, without telling anyone until months after - I suspect it's so they can maximise sales before closing the door. For this I cite Google Wave, Google Glass, Google Plus and most recently Google Hangouts.

ChromeBook never took off, most developers don't support them (I don't) - it was 2 halves of nothing, the size of a laptop but not the power.

If you get a PC and have trouble with JKA please get back to me and I'll have it working for you as we did last time

You're right that its a Council vote - but a prerequisite for that is you need to be seen active on server (wouldn't make sense otherwise!). So give us a holler when that's the case.

And finally, just super awesome to hear from you again - I knew you even before I joined KR when I'd play on the JSU server

As Jaw said, a Chromebook is really designed for office work, typing, checking emails, maybe watching videos. It's not designed to run intensive programs like videogames or editing software.

I own a Chromebook, it's a great machine for what it does, but it's not designed to run JKA.

But it sounds like you're financially situated, so no matter what you decide to get I have no doubt we'll be seeing you again not too long from now.

Many thanks for the info. I had a feeling chrome wasn't for what I usually do. And the friends who told me about it don't use it for gaming. Just office type work. Guess I'll stay with Windows. And they didn't push me to it. They just suggested it.

Like I said when I am ready to return, I'll post it then do it. I just hope the game disc works with windows 10 and the new system I buy.

As for JSU? Yes I remember your visits to that server, Jaw. But those days are long over as is that clan. But I did have good times there just as I did/do with KR.

And for my financial status as a retiree? well I never went to college and earned any kind of degree. I mostly worked all kinds of labor type jobs in my life. Oh I did learn a lot of different things. As for my retirement, I don't require much in life. Just food (ofc lol) clothes, etc. I'm comfortable. It took a bit of work to set it all up and gave my 2 sisters copies of what they needed just in case something happens to me, they can access my money and use it as they see fit. Sort of like a will in a way. They'd do the same for me. But they don't know it yet. I plan to live to be 100 years old. hahahah yeah right. I wish. lol

Ok update. I just ordered a new computer. It will arrive on Wednesday January 20th. And it does have a disc drive. I noticed in my online shopping they call it Optical drive now. hmmm.

Anyway after I receive it and make sure its functioning properly, I plan to order Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy on disc. So if any of you have any suggestions where to get copies online from a reputable site, I'd appreciate it. I know about Half.com. My sister has used that before for what she wants, but that was a couple years ago. Let me know and I'll look into it/them.

It'll be good to see you again, man. I don't know any sources for the disc of Jedi Academy for you though, unfortunately. Most people nowadays use digital CD keys to download it, or just purchase it on Steam. I would mail you mine, but UK discs don't work on US disc drives.

Glad to hear you're returning. Once you get your new laptop, you might try steam again and see if that works. If not, there are several different ways to still play that don't require you buying another copy of the game (openjk,eternaljk,wincdemu).
