Atton Rand: Pilot, Ex-Smuggler (Human Male)
T3-M4: (Astromech Droid)
Mira: Miner (Human Female)
Kreia: Ex-Jedi Master (Human Female)
Prologue:
Peragus Mining Facility, Peragus II
"Kriffing mining droids. Damn things are gonna be the end of us, you watch..." Grumbling, if only to himself, Adharan could barely hold himself upright as the lift began its slow ascent. Even if the droids did the majority of work on Peragus, it hardly had eliminated the need for individuals to properly manage the fuel as it was mined out. If anything, it had only increased their work-load from what it had been prior to the droids' entrance into the operation. The exhaustion all of them felt after their shifts was all the evidence he needed of that.
"Better them doing the hard work than us..."
"From where I'm standing, we're still doing all of that..." Rubbing at his eyes, the miner reached out to steady himself as the aged lift came to a shuddering stop. "...especially since this damn place is practically falling apart already."
"Save it, Adharan. You keep that kind of talk up and one of the foreman's gonna have you working overtime on the fuel lines."
"Like I care..." Shaking his head, the miner waited only a second for the lift's door to open before stumbling his way out, his mind already set on the dormitories. Immediately, the sound of the over-crowded mess hall met his ears, only making his growing headache even worse. Hearing a few shouted greetings, he gave a short wave before quickly making a line for the exit. The last thing he wanted to deal with was having a conversation with the entire facility.
"Long day, Adharan...?" He hadn't realized it, but as he looked beside him, one of those who had wished him greetings had followed him out of the room. Scuffing at the comment, Adharan shoved his hands into his pockets, not carrying what might be lingering on them.
"Easy way of putting it..." Although he didn't see it, he was sure the comment had brought out a smile on the other miner's face. Of that he was certain. "How 'bout yourself, Mira, any luck getting that damn fuel line locked down?"
"If there was, it's the first I'm hearing about it..." Shaking her head, Mira fished for her identification card as the dormitories lingered in front of them. Security had been growing tighter as of late, especially after the last batch of contraband had been found. Madine still hadn't heard the end of it, even after his two days spent up in the force cage. As far as any of them were concerned, trying to sneak a blaster into the facility had the same effect as aiming the same weapon at one's head and pulling the trigger. The end result was all the more likely to be the same.
Exhausted sigh leaving his lips, Adharan was all too happy to enter his room and immediately collapse onto his bunk. Watching him from her perch within the door way, Mira couldn't stop the smirk that quickly sprang to the corner of her lips.
"Don't die on me. Last thing I wanna have to do is come back and find your body all sprawled out like you've been out on all night bender on Telos."
"If I do, you will be the first to know..." Barely able to push the words off his tongue, Adharan sluggishly managed to roll himself onto his back, eyes still closed to the world. "Any word on when the next shipment's coming in?"
"Haven't heard anythin-"
"Hey, we gotta a ship comin' in!" Peeking his head into the room, ignoring the fact that a conversation was already underway, one of their fellow miners gave no other explanation before dashing towards the exits. Casting one look at him before turning back to her friend, Mira rolled her eyes at Adharan's lack of movement.
"Yeah, don't worry about it. I'm on it."
