I wouldnt consider it off topic (although I can undestand why you may say that off topic seems to be teh most used phrase here)

As the religion or science stance is the root of you entire theory of what might happen or what will happen and what will happen to us all.

Like RaVen I do believe in god and a greater being, I also believe that religion done correctly is a great basis and teaching on how we should behave and morals in life. However I do have plenty of belief in the scientific basis.. I think comparing the Garden of Eden to evolution over time doesnt stand up.

What amazes me is looing at those diagrams above... we are such a nothing in relation to not only to SOL, but to our entire galaxy and yet universe. Theres so much out there.. If something was going to come and wipe us all out... We will probably never know about it and will never be preapared or be able to stop it.

If the second nearest star blew up to us, we'd be dead in 2 minutes and not know anything about it.

I don't believe 7 days was meant as a metaphor.

Anyway why think about when we're all going to die?
By OPTIMISTIC
jeez. Optimism is so hard to come by.
I think we're going to live like we are now, meaning wars, conflict, death, disease, hardship. Yet still getting on. For the next few thousand years at least.

And then you have people saying "Well why are people killing other people? Why are there murders? People starving?" Their the RULES OF THE GAME. It happons, it will happon, and it HAS to happon. Your never going to change it and it will never change. Christ. /slap.

Optimism!!!!

I think we're doing fine.

I agree on that..... if you look in the past... we have always killed each other. That will never change for as long as earth is still floatin around

Oh... just remembered a new way for the world to end... it won't be in 2012, but I still think it fits this topic...

Another way for us to end:
The Y sex chromosome (you know the one that makes men?) continues to get smaller each generation... What will happen if it just gets too small? Will we just not be able to have children (no children = no humans for a simpler explanation)? will there be a new sex? OMG END OF ZE WORLD!

Edit: I really don't care about this one, although it may be why men do dumber things... Also, won't happen in our lifetimes... so no worries for us.. :)

Edit 2:

That intrigued me... I'm betting we learn alot of new things (maybe we'll finally find that dark matter everyone is lookin' for).... also the worst that could happen is it blows up, in my opinion, and its underground and I'm in the U.S. so I'm safe from that :)...

Evolution would sort that out.

I think within the next 40-50 years we will have colonised Mars

Some of the pictures you get back from there are interesting.

The soil on mars was found to be very similar to the soil that could be in a person's back yard... Also, it was said to be very suited for certain plants (couldn't remember what plants were said >.>). So if we do colonize Mars the main thing we'd have to worry about is water (suggested to be underground or in one of the poles?) and air (use them there plants!)

They found water on Mars aswell, its just too bloody cold there

You know along long time ago

Venus is well they are sure it was terraformed now with continents and ocean just like earth.. Earths sister planet.. however it has burnt out now and became too hot and unhabitable.. earth may well go the same way and as you say:

water life = soil plants oxygen atmosphere

By the time Mars is fully self dependant it may have warmed up aswell.

Evolution would sort that out.

Actually DarkLink your right.

But men won’t go extinct until 150,000-250,000 years in the future.

Y was already at odds with X (That’s there are more woman on Earth than men). Men have Y and an X and women having 2 X’s. So for every Y out there, there is 3 or more X’s.

But on top of that men have been killing off the Y chromosome since the beginning of...well man. Wars are the number one cause (next to death) of the Disappearing Y chromosome. And with those men gone, and most not having children first, we will never recover those missing Y’s. So something that would last longer just got cut shorter. Gene pool shrinking.

If anyone should be going to war it should be the women. We got lots of time before we go byebye.

But men won’t just disappear either. It will just become more and more rare to have a male child until it just stops happening.

But considering “Humans” have only been around for 10,000-5,000 years and we are this far along in technology…maybe we will find a solution in 150,000 years? Who knows.

For a cool/interesting read check out Adam’s Curse.

If only we could just dump all our excess greenhouse gasses onto Mars (and somehow keep them there when Mars can't keep an atmosphere) so mars would be warmer and we would stop global warming... <--- Hey look another end of the world! global warming (and the theoretical ice age that will follow)

I agree Rav, except we probably will kill ourselves off before we even get near having to find a solution..... or it might just be impossible (but probably isn't...)

Very interesting

also you highlight the scale of time that we have been around for 10-15k yet this could take 150k.. well

within 10k we can cloen humans...

Somehow I dont think this will ever be an issue with the Y chromosome.

Well, there's a problem with cloning... We can do it now... but all we are doing is implanting a copy of someones genes (which by the way get destroyed over time) and replace them with a zygote's... and its success rate is like 1:10,000 (or some big number like that >_>)

 #37550  by Melissa

I dont as such agree with the cloning... but we are still in a primary stage of discovering it.. given the scale we are at in RaVens time line...

I think something would have progresssed considerably by then.

For right or wrong, humans we seem to want to break the mould of nature

You wish you would help ruin the Earth with hairspray and destroy your mind with drugs? Or is it you want the free unprotected sex? I'm betting on the latter.... (I'm just kidding mate... unless of course that's why you wish that O.o)

err well I don't have time to read over everyone's post cause I gotta go to a concert in like 5 minutes >_< so I dunno if this has been said yet or not, but umm, I'm pretty sure It was galelaio (SP) who also had a theory like this, but his stated, once again I believe this was science class a few years back that the earth would end in 2060, and that we would pretty much destroy ourselves by that time.

Also another interesting fact this one I'm sure of though Cause I just saw it a while back. I dunno if any of you are history freaks like I am, but I was watching history channel over the roman empire a while back, They said if the roman empire would have never fallen, and was still in tact today, Because they were so technologically advanced compared to the rest of the world, that in another 100 years of their existence they wouldve already had made weapon's that we didn't think of till about 1000 AC, and also that by 1600 AC the roman's would already be in space, and because they were so technologically advanced, the whole entire world, would be under the control of the roman's. Heh, just though that whole bit was sorta interested, sorry for getting so far off topic >_<

THe eygptians seem far more impressive, what they did was amazing mathatecal and artictecture they way they were able to build cities and all the pyramids based on stars, i.e orions belft each containing a single small shaft which exactly fit in each star of the belt.

Amazing!

The Greeks were also the begining of civilisation. The Romans and greeks were far ahead of anyone else at their reseptive times
