Chapter Five
Mandalorian Command Ship
Skies Above Malachor V
"Kill me. End it then." Anarra replied, her eyes burning with a uncapped passion. She had been
so close, so near to achieving what she wanted. And now, here she lay, disarmed, and about to die by the hands of someone she had once loved.
"No." The single word echoed throughout the hanger, bouncing off every wall and rebounding back to her. This would be his final laugh at her, to deny her the end that she had wanted for months. And now, he had won.
"No?" she asked, although her mind has failed to stop her. There was a certain softness in her voice now, gone was the black trimmed thread of anger that had dominated her voice earlier. Inside her, something was changing, and the Dark Side was losing it's iron-gripped control on her.
"No. I will not strike you down, there's too much at stake right now. And i need all the help i can receive."
"Then what will you do? Leave me here to die?" Removing the mask from his face, Revan stared down at her, no sign of any emotion in his eyes. If this was a trick, then it was indeed one that Anarra would fall for.
"No.I"m getting you out of here." He said, pulling a small comlink from his belt. "Alek, come in."
"Revan? What's going on, the fleet's falling apart out here!" was the response from the other end as Revan's second-in-command answered with a sense of urgency. Alek, who had escaped from Mandalorian imprisonment merely two years earlier, had been the first to follow Revan to war against the Mandalorians.
"Get a shuttle into the Mandalorian's command ship. Lock onto the signal from the channel i'm using."
"What? Are you insane?! The Mandalorians will rip the shuttle to shreads the instant it leaves the hanger bay!"
"Alek, Anarra is here. She needs medical attention." Revan replied, noticing that Anarra was trying to return to her feet. He felt no threat of danger through the Force, at least coming from her. No, the fight was over, and she had lost. Anarra had nowhere else to go.
"Anarra?I...i....Sithspit! I'll send the shuttle now. Just hurry up and get out of there!"
"No, pick her up, and leave. I'm staying."
The Invincible
"General, we have no choice, we need to activate the Shadow Generator! If we don't, the Republic dies here." Inside her mind, Brianna regretted hearing those words. The Mass Shadow Generator still hadn't even been tested. If they used it now, it could easily destroy not only the Mandalorians, but also the Republic fleet. And yet, they had been pushed back into finally using this last resort.
"General?" Bao-Dur asked, covering his severed arm with one of the oil rags that had always adorned his belt. Turning to face him, Brianna avoided looking at the arm, another reminder of how this war was going for them.
"Activate it Bao-Dur.....activate the Generator." she said quietly, bowing her head. This was it, the moment that the Republic had waited for, the moment that the galaxy had desired for the past three years. The moment that Brianna was about to fulfill.
"Right away General. I obey."
Mandalorian Command Ship
"Alek, get her onboard!" Revan shouted above the sounds of the battle outside the hanger. As he slowly handed Anarra over to Alek, Revan gave her one last glance. His former friend had finally lost conscience despite all that Revan had done to stop the flow of blood from her arm.
"Revan, Brianna is going to activate the Shadow Generator. If you stay here, you'll surely be destroyed with the rest of the Mandalorian fleet." "Alek said, taking Anarra into his arms and setting her down slowly on the medical bed beside him. "We have to retreat to hyperspace. It's the only way we'll survive."
"No, my friend. If it is my fate to die here, then i will go with the Force. Take Anarra, get her away from this place. She...she deserves better than this." Turning away from the two, Revan slowly began his journey to the bridge, taking his saber into his hand once again. One way or another, one death or another, this was going to end today. The Mandalorians wouldn't threaten the galaxy one more day.
"Revan." Alek called out, he himself turning back from the top of the boarding ramp of the shuttle. Revan twisted his head back towards the shuttle, his face unreadable behind the mask once again.
"May the Force be with you."
Bridge, Mandalorian Command Ship
As he disembarked from the shuttle lift, Revan had expected the thousands of troops to immediately raise their rifles and open fire. And yet, they
bowed to him. Bowed to him in their blue, red, and yellow armor. And standing in the center of the bridge, was their supreme command. Mandalore The Ultimate.
"It is a glorious sight, is it not Revan?" he said, staring out into the heart of the battle. "The sight of a million warriors, fighting to their last dieing breath."
"A glorious sight to you. To the rest of the galaxy, this is a
nightmare." Revan replied, his lightsaber still gripped in his hand, his thumb dieing to activate the weapon, and strike his opponent down. For three years, he had fought against this foe, and now, their
god was in front of him, willing to met him in one final instance of hand to hand combat.
"Don't you see Revan? This is what we were DESTINED for! We were destined to meet here, at this moment. To take part in the greatest battle of our time!"
"Save me your words Mandalorian. Draw your weapons, and let's finish this." Revan said, activating his lightsaber and readying himself for the battle. Mandalore in turn, pulled his vibro-blade from it's sheath, and charged.
The two weapons met each other, clashing as they received contact, and again as they disengaged and met again and again. Behind them, the Mandalorian soldiers watched in silence, in their minds
knowing that they would emerge victorious. They
knew.
Revan remained on the defensive for most of the battle, waiting for his enemy to tire or make a mistake and leave an opening in his defense. Just as Revan had done during a spar between himself and a young apprentice. An apprentice that had refused to join them, and had left her battle meditation out of the war.
And his waiting had paid off. As Revan ducked underneath another slash from the vibro-blade, he attacked with his saber at the Mandalorian commander's side. The blade met armor, and soon after met flesh. Pushing away, Mandalore looked back at Revan, anger flowing beneath his mask. And then, he laughed.
"Well done Revan. You are indeed as impressive a swordsman as the rumors have made you out to be." he said, before he launched another assault against the Jedi General. However, his attack patterns had grown sloppy, and Revan gradually began to push back, the advantage in the duel was his now. The two swordsmen exchanged blows for what seemed like hours, but in reality was mere minutes. And then it was all over.
The lightsaber blade disappeared into Mandalore's chest, his vibroblade dropping to the floor with a loud clang. Behind him, the Mandalorian soldiers spoke in hushed whispers. They had
lost. It was over.
The Invincible
Minutes after Mandalore's Death
"General, the Generator is ready." Bao-Dur said, his remaining hand flying over the control panel. In front of him, Brianna stood, his eyes closed, her mind already mourning for the millions of lives that were about to end.
"Activate it. Let's end this." were her only words as she continued to stand completely still. At her sides, her arms were trembling. And with the movement of a finger, the Mass Shadow Generator erupted.
Around the ship, explosions quickly began erupting, the remains of ships beginning to fall towards the surface of Malachor itself. Closer and closer the explosions came to the
Invincible. Turning back towards Bao-Dur, Brianna merely nodded, and continued to look at him, saying nothing. And then, the next explosion came from the ship itself, as the engines erupted into a ball of fire.
Inside Brianna's head, the Force erupted into a deafening room of sound. All around her, outside and on the bridge itself, the souls of the dead and dying screamed. Screamed into
her head. She fell to the floor of the bridge, her palms covering her ears in a desperate attempt to block out the sounds.
"MAKE IT STOP!!!!!" she screamed, tears streaming down her cheeks from the pain. And then, as quickly as it had began, there was nothing but silence. Nothing more than an echo. The war was over.
Epilogue
"I remember standing on the bridge with you and watching the destruction of the Republic—watching ships full of soldiers and Jedi burn and die. I remember the look you had when you turned to me. It was the longest you'd ever looked at me. You didn't say anything—just a nod. Events move quickly then, even in my dreams. Flashes, explosions, you—falling. I could feel the pain around me. And then the memory. The drifting hulks of the Mandalorian ships, the dead—allies, friends, strangers. And then the echo. Lingering. The sound I awaken to in my nightmares"- Bao Dur
The Mandalorian Wars continued to haunt the Republic for decades after.
After that final great battle, Revan and his follower Alek ventured into the Unknown Regions, 'To find the last remaining traces of the Mandalorian Fleet' in their words. But they discovered something out there, something that twisted their minds. What they found turned them to the Dark Side of the Force. And they proclaimed themselves Dark Lords of the Sith, and took the names Darth Revan, and Darth Malak.
But there was also another artifact that they discovered. An artifact that they had found clues to during the entire course of the war. On the planets Dantooine, Korriban, Manaan, Tatooine, and Kashyyyk, they discovered the remains of an Infinite Empire, and with it, a group of five Star Maps that soon led them to the Star Forge.
And from out of that war was born another, The Jedi Civil War.
