Sony seem happy to penalise and enforce laws upon everybody whilst charging over priced products which are in effect average... yet they also think they can take teh law into their own hands and breach other peoples privacy


They should be wound up!! the only thing half decent they make nower days are mobile phones... PS3 is an overpriced 2005 PC with disappointing graphical capabilities. a Blu ray player which MAY not become a standard product.. Their msic line has always been okay, although again I think theres much better out there.

It's their form of protecting their sales, more or less. It installs software on your computer w/o letting you know, and furthermore, makes it difficult to access/remove. There was a big deal awhile ago with them doing it with games, I believe. They were asked to remove it, they said they did, but instead just made it harder to detect (and it was still detected), which caused an uproar amongst the populace.

I still like their TVs, as over-priced as they are.

They want to protect their sales fine.. but why break the law themselves by installing illegal software on your PC like a back door so they can see whast on your PC

I don't support it, by any means. People still get around it, anyway. It's just as bad as that Starforce CD protection or whatever. I hate how it installs shiz on my PC. I got a kick out of it when Vista blocked the installation of their drivers.

Im kinda confused on the whole concept of a rootkit, would anyone mind briefly explaining its function and why sony would use it?

They're not damaging or anything, it's more that they can cause greater vulnerability to a system. The average user won't be able to access their directories and a skilled programmer could quickly whip up a virus or other malicious software and just plop it in one of their folders using Sony's own craftsmanship to bolster their own. If you're careful about avoiding situations that would expose your system to trojans, viruses, etc... it's not a big deal.

The PS3's graphics at least exceeded the original X-Box.
Personally I never cared for the PS3. The PS2 was perfectly fine with me.
