Greetings fellows,

I like to notice small things. I think I have a knack for finding them; but this time, this small thing has been noticed by others as well. They have commented, and now I'm going to drag it into the light of the burning sun.

When you fight with a single saber, you have the ability to switch between three separate styles, red yellow, and blue. In retrospect, dual sabers and staff sabers have the ability to switch between two only.

I know what you might suggest I've picked up, but in case you haven't seen what it is exactly, I want to tell you.

Switching between yellow and staff, dual and blue, is very motion-sequenced with our surroundings. On the contrary, it takes a second, I think literally, for us to switch between red, yellow, blue, or in any sequence, with single. I don't know if this is because It's impossible to tell while jumping and attacking otherwise when someone has switched, but I still notice this.

I'm wondering if this is simply the mechanics of the game, or a commonly known glitch that hasn't yet been addressed, out of possibly lax attitudes.

Thanks,

Your friend,
Wind.

I think that's programmed into the game. I would say the reason being that its very obvious when staff or duals are switching, as one saber turns on or off. Single is obviously less so. Is just my guess.

There is a 0.8 delay in this switch for single, as I hope all my Padawans know (or at least remember being taught). Whilst there are some glitches which can be utilized for staff and dual users with their instantaneous switch, if this were enabled for single it would be catastrophic.

Imagine starting a blue fan then switching to red so that you have the speed of blue with the power and parry of red, ouch! In fact, with single, it's not until the saber isn't "active" (not attacking thus it has no trail/blur) that the style change is effected. A skilled player can actually use this to keep the saber in action whilst changing, for instance switching to red whilst still fanning blue, or lunging. This can be used as mechanism to disguise a style change (which is necessary against any decent player), much like using side-roll jumps to disguise a style change.

By the way, if there are any Masters or above rank who don't know this stuff, talk to me...

Took me a second to figure out what it was you were getting at lol

Yeah it is something single just does, it makes more sense for it to be quicker for staff and duals because their style involves activating/deactivating a secondary blade. As jaw said it would be catastrophic if you could change styles mid-swing.

I feel it is because the swings for these styles are so dramatically different, is why the switch doesn't take effect until after the swing is over.

For the record your teachings did not go upon unhearing ears... I remember :-), As jawfin has said if you could do a blue fan, change to red ... Imagine having 4-5 red strikes in your face within about 2-3 seconds and thats the sort of fire power you'd be up against, But there are also many many ways to hide a style change the most simple of which being walking. ( Cartwheel is my favorite )
